Community servers is the only anticheat that has ever worked and will ever work, at least until they do away with every pretense of privacy and are able to dispatch enforcers to your real life physical location. We all know we are ruled over by machinations of inhuman [REDACTED] so the next step is naturally to do something like requiring cameras pointing at your battlestation and over your shoulder at the screen being monitored by AI in tandem with your wifi and local 5g tower monitoring your household EMF, real time 3d mapping, and personal device geography. It's exactly the same nonsense. I recently decided to play Black Ops 1. I found one of the few active servers. I was playing well. Then I got kicked. The reason? I wasn't playing by the “rules,” I wasn't capturing points. Okay, I logged in again a week later, and it happened again. And I'm sure it was because the admin was mad at me. All the players were literally plankton with no reaction, and I easily took out the helicopter/dogs/radar. Almost every match.

Yes it's the same when there's only one option. In this circumstance you do however have the freedom to find or host another server and attempt to seed and populate it. Now there's only one admin no matter what, with no recourse whatsoever

When a game has tons of players it's really easy to find a community that suits your style and stay there. Sure early on while looking for a server you may come across terrible admins, but eventually you find people just like you and a good server to play on. Was like that for Counter Strike back then and pretty much every other game with dedicated servers.

The moment this got replaced with a big "matchmaking" button is when everything turned to shit.

The realized that since 8 years all new PCs have UEFI secure boot + TPM and it's a Windows 11 requirement so they felt safe to turn it on and praise it as the cure all-for cheaters.
