I have 80 hours on VS and on 90 on Baba and my playtime was spent like this:
Void Stranger:
- one complete playthrough that got the true ending
- full save wipe, replayed the game getting all memory crystals without burdens (fuck hard mode B142 btw, that crystal had me stumped for like 4 hours straight)
- beat all the bonus modes (including 0stRanger IF)
- completed EX
- minor casual secret/alt ending hunting for fun
Baba Is You:
- one attempted playthrough, stopped playing before I even made it to the meta levels
- another fresh playthrough years later, completed all main story levels
- completed all Museum levels
- completed all New Adventures levels
- fucked around with the level editor for a few hours
I think Baba is consistently the harder game of the two, and many individual puzzles will stump you for longer than anything equivalent in VS. Outside of DIS/Mon's Funhouse/EX, VS's burdens make most puzzles a cakewalk and you have to actively go out of your way to do a burdenless crystals challenge like I did if you want to squeeze all the difficulty out of them.
That said, VS lore/riddle puzzles that require taking notes introduce a layer of difficulty that Baba doesn't have. The limited lives and lack of undos doesn't really affect the difficulty of VS's puzzles because after 10 or so hours of play you will have learned how to make locusts a complete non-issue.
