Level 1
>Activating vicissitude costs a few blood points and opens up a character-creation menu but with MUCH more options than the regular cc, allowing you to create some oblivionesque monsters, add aditional limbs and body parts, etc. Basically like customizing your creature in Spores, except it has to be reasonably humanoid in shape.
Level 2

Speaking of Malkavians, the PC Gamer magazine issue has details about Fabien that aren't in other versions. (Although this MIGHT be the in-between Fabien, when he was a hard boiled detective.) Fabien "has constructed this story he tells himself". And "The whip-smart detective is a persona he's able to hold onto, centering himself." Also "There are things Fabien will tell you that are clearly not true, but he believes them."

Even that is not ususally the norm, the toleration part. in most settings, while the good at prediction or old ones are semi tolerated, most grunt malks are either avoided because most elders don't wanna deal with someone that has the potential to just turn john wick and tell them one day their death is coming, or they get treated like a disabled person, some trying to take advantage of them or straight up metaphoriclally spit on them.

People hating Bloodlines combat are, I have to assume, people who have 0 clue how to build a character. Using Celerity, Thaumaturgy, Obfuscate, Protean, Dominate, or Animalism in combat with having enough points in either melee or firearms to meet weapon requirements makes the combat unironically fun. You just get to body anything you come across however you see fit and really give into the whole power fantasy aspect of being a vampire. Messing with mortals amusing obfuscate to harass and serial killer or ambush them with Obfuscate and melee weapons or using Thaumaturgy to absolutely demolish anything you come across was fun as hell. Even the Sewers aren't that bad if you're a gun vamp.

Combat in VtmB is only bad if your character is a jobber and you're stuck spamming blood buff and hoping you get through the combat , which isn't a problem if you just put points into combat stats and disciplines

IIRC guns still do the same amount of damage even if you're lower on firearms you just can't aim them as well. I play through VtmB once every autumn so it's been awhile but I think shotguns unironically are OP as shit and the game even mentions that explicitly. You can go down into the Hollywood sewers having a low firearms and a lot of shells with just the regular pump shotgun and can still kill most everything down there. Nah, clearing out the Society of Leopold, Kuei Jinn temple, the underground drug bust, planting the astrolite in that Sabbath hideout, and clearing out the Triad in both locations in Chinatown were all fun as hell. As far as being able to power fantasy larp most combat encounters are pretty good. There is a sense of progression you get from unlocking new weapons and disciplines that change how you approach different levels as you progress. I know she's a retired Elder, so you start getting those "Antiquated" characteristics, but something that concerns me about the new game is that everyone and everything feels like they're trying to be Vampires and not so much people who happened to have been made Vampires. Like the first game had oddities like Beckett and Maximillian but those guys are old and explicitly eccentric weirdos. The majority of vampires you meet just felt like random assholes you'd see anywhere else. Damsel is just an edgy college kid, Nines and Jack just feel like Biker assholes, Lacroix is your standard high society nepo baby, etc.

No you're right I just looked it up and base damage does increase but only for every point in firearms past a weapons minimum point requirement so you're not crazy. I usually only level to guns minimum requirements and only use those weapons afterwards for the most part so I probably don't notice it as much. Also yeah Methuselah's are approaching that insane tier of power that just gets silly after awhile , however garou if they're pretty young can absolutely still get bodied by shotguns if they roll low and aren't careful in game. Werewolves are super combat oriented but they can still get punished otherwise the stakes in a game stops mattering. Like if we wanted the werewolf fight in VtmB to be lore accurate, a character with max Potence and mid to high celerity would be fist fighting that werewolf and has a pretty high chance of winning. The truth is that a lot of games are messes until fairly late in dev. So you just try to coordinate deparments and project confidence. You'd be surprised how genuinely bad to play a lot of beloved games were just 2-3 months before they shipped, in the old days when games had shorter dev cycles. I remember seeing the beta versions of Halo where all the weapon balancing was just awful, and the shipped version is all super polishd and good.

So there is a tendency to just hope it'll all come together. Okay, we'll just delay another 6 months and hope it's working out. Skidmore is pretty talented. He worked on Fable 2 and 3. And he seems pretty smart in interviews talking about what he's trying to do with Bloodlines 2. But in terms of The Chinese Room as a studio, the things people liked about their games, is was all Dan Pinchbeck. His games had a particular style to their writing and voice acting. And while Pinchbeck worked on this game for a while, he left in 2023, and I'm sure things have changed, and he was never gonna be able to write the whole game. This type of RPG is very different to the kind of "one guy writes the whole thing" walking sim he was known for.

I just wonder what happens next. I'm pretty sure like 4/5 of the writers on this game have left the studio. They were brought in specifically to write this game. So even if you love this game's writing and it has amazing characters and stuff, the next Chinese Room game is going to likely have a completely new writing team. Games are made by teams. I'll probably pirate it or watch someone play it but I have no real interest.
Beyond the dozens of red flags and issues that probably will weight down the game, I just don't see a current world where the writing can be good.
Video games of the past decade have proven that modern writers have a distinct, different voice than the past generations. The plot might be interesting and the twists well timed, but I have absolutely no hope than the dialogue will be any good. If it was just three guys in a room writing for the game, I could have some hope, but it's definitely a team of 15 + weekly shareholder meetings.
Besides that, the fact that it is meant to be a modern take on vampire, goes hand in hand with that. Modern premise and characters means modern writing.
Of course, this was true in the late 90's too, when they made the first game. But this was then and this is now. The aesthetic has stuck for the last 20 years, and for the majority of people, has become synonymous with vampires.
I foresee a game rife with overproduced cutscenes, a much more serious tone than the first game ever had, obligatory pointless romance options, a story told through exposition rather than gameplay, and overall cringeworthy and dull dialogue. And that's just the writing.

I think the presentation and lighting makes them look smaller than they actually are. But also part of it is that in the OG design, the dress seems to fit much more tightly around her bust, which is realistic, in the newer version it is thicker, which makes it look like her breasts shrunk.
