Yep, it was originally going to be a Popeye game but Nintendo couldn’t secure the license in time, so Miyamoto had to pivot last minute. Bluto became Donkey Kong, Popeye became Jumpman (who we now know as Mario), and Olive Oyl became Pauline. Honestly wild to think that one of gaming’s biggest icons came from a licensing mishap over a spinach-chugging sailor.
