Metroid Prime 4 waiting thread
>did my yearly playthrough of the trilogy, which I usually start in the winter holidays and finish in the first months of the new year
>these games are special and I like to wait before playing them again
>but hype for Prime 4 made me want to replay Prime 1 right away, just to get a taste of the classic Prime 1 style adventure they seem to be calling back to with Viewros, so I played it in the spring
>And then I just wanted a little more taste, so I played Prime 3 to get in the mood for the feelings I felt at the end of the trilogy back in 2008 (my god, 2008?), seeing the 100% completion cliffhanger
>Remembered the "Project Dread" tease in the Pirate base in Prime 3 - crazy that Dread finally materialized after all these years, and now a sequel to Prime 3...
>Finished Prime 3 at the start of the summer
>then just wanted a little more taste and rounded it out with my favorite game in the trilogy, Prime 2 last month
And now, with no news or proper release date, I'm tempted to play Prime 1 *again*
I can hardly stand the wait xO

I hope people have Samus fucking more aliens after this game releases. Also maybe ones actually in her games and not everyone else's please. That our of the way I hope the mechanics are soundly executed, that Sylux is done satisfyingly after years upon years of buildup and also soundtrack is still killer like Prime 1 or 3's

The Retro that made Prime 1~3 is not the retro making Prime 4. Though Prime Remaster gave me hope it'll be interesting to see what they come up with on their own and if it can hold a candle to Elysia or the Sanctuary Fortress.

I get the feeling, or I'm hoping, there are at least 2/3 more big environments to explore. We've only seen the jungle biome. Hoping for more, as would be tradition.
If there are more biomes though, I approve of them keeping the other biomes secret. I like the idea of not having the exploration spoiled.
The tree seems like a big deal story-wise.

They arenโ€™t gonna announce the release date on the fucking app, they would have done so if that was the case.
Theyโ€™ll announce it in September or maybe even this month in a Direct, along with like an overview of sorts. Theyโ€™ll announce a November release date and start full on marketing. 2 months of marketing sounds about right.

I finished replaying Prime 2 yesterday, and I got to say, the Emperor Ing really isn't as bad as I remembered it being. Not fun, but not atrocious either. I completely fucked myself though, because I started at the start of July, but then I softlocked myself in Sanctuary Fortress. Having to restart the whole game and rushing through it was not cool. But at the same time, I'm kind of glad that I did. Playing Metroid for hours on end, knowing what to do, wasn't something I've done before. It was cathartic, if I could describe it in one word.
I'll finish off the trilogy with Corruption in a month or so.

Anons, I want to get into Metroid Prime. I have never played the games. What's the best way to play them? I have a Switch and PCs, so I can play the remaster of Prime 1 and emulate the others somewhere.

Should I play the Switch remaster of the 1st game? Are the original versions the kind of thing that look best on a CRT TV? I have an emulation setup hooked up to one of those too, should I play 'em there or should I play 'em at 4k on my modern screen?

I have a feeling Prime 4 isn't doing enough to innovate the series. There's not really anything that sticks out about it. The gravity thing isn't really that interesting and feels like a Wiimote gimmick. The shooting mechanics don't even look improved or updated.

Yeah, the remaster of 1 is excellent. The ideal way to play the other two would have been the trilogy collection from the Wii. I guess emulate them if you can. I don't know how Wii and motion control emulation works though.

It's not going to suck. But it's also not going to be great. Generic and too similar to the first one at best. I also don't think Dread was very good. As a Metroid fan, I'm going to get shit for this, but I think the series has run its course and there's nothing fresh or interesting to do with it anymore.

Problem I had with Dread is the map design. Gameplay felt great, but the maps had no artistic vision, not helped by every one of them having a large EMMI section with the same assets.

No one can make prime except retro, they tried once before. Honestly mercurysteam should just do a 3d third person metroid, I feel the 2D games have nothing left to explore (Dread was proof of that) unlike prime but it'll all depend on if sakamoto is still traumatized from other M.

They shadow dropped the Prime Remaster.
I have a funny feeling they're doing a Nintendo showmanship thing, where they'll do a final trailer soon and release it the same day.
>>717685286
Officially I'll recommend the Prime Remaster. Support the series and all that.
Unofficially, I'll say the original versions are always best.
Play the Gamecube versions if you can - avoid the Primehack unless it's your only way to play Prime 3. It makes the games too easy.
If you can manage to play Prime 3 on a Wii (or with proper Wii controls by other means) that's worth doing.
CRT is the way to go for all 3 games. Even if you play the Remaster, play it on a CRT.
Basically, try to get the original intended experience. It's more effort but more fun.

I think it might be shadowdropped too. The game is obviously finished. If people are now whispering about some hangups in development, then I know for a fact that the game is finished and they are going to drop it on us whenever they feel like.

>recently finished Prime Remastered after finally prioritizing it in my backlog
Yep, it's still great. I replayed 2 and 3 a few years so had wanted to get to this and it was still rad.

I kind of want to do one more Metroid before Prime 4 but not sure what. Choices are

>Dread (second playthrough, played it on release)
>Fusion (second playthrough, played it a few years ago)
>NES Metroid (first playthrough, never tried to actually complete cause I heard it's so much more abrasive, have played Zero Mission (relatively recently too))
I'm thinking Fusion probably.

>Play the Gamecube versions if you can
Those should just run on Dolphin I imagine, so I certainly can.
>If you can manage to play Prime 3 on a Wii (or with proper Wii controls by other means) that's worth doing.
I don't have a Wii or any Wii hardware, I don't think I'm really going to try to buy used stuff to play 1 game. I've looked around a bit and it seems it might be possible to hook up joycons to Dolphin somehow and use those to emulate the motion controls. I played Super Mario Galaxy on Switch and the motion controls using joycons worked fine, if it's possible to get that working in Dolphin it should be more than fine I think.
>CRT is the way to go for all 3 games. Even if you play the Remaster, play it on a CRT.
Alright, I already have a PC hooked up to a CRT TV, I can use that then. The Remaster is 16:9, no? I don't have any 16:9 CRTs for that one.
