ultima
I really enjoyed this but at the same time I'm kind of burning out on the Ultima games and 6's UI makes my head hurt with how tiny the actual play area is contrasted with a bright as fuck piss yellow parchment look for everything else.

I'm curious if there are any modern ultima successors? Basically anything that dumps you into a big world with a bunch of vague hints and asks you to travel the whole world trying to piece together what the fuck you're supposed to be doing and how to achieve it.

The first one, what are you a pussy?
If you are I'd say 4 since it feels like when the games finally got their shit together with a cohesive world/setting and gameplay.

Stay on >>>/vrpg/. You ruined that board, now stay there and wallow in it.

It's a mystery anon.

There's an ultima schizo on vrpg? I don't think there's even an ultima thread to begin with.

so akalabeth doesn't count as first? some call it ultima 0 so i guess it's not first just zero :S

Why is every single RPG thread the same games over and over with one retard pretending to be a newfag and talking to himself? This is exactly how reddit works.

Try out Moonring. It's flawed, but it's definitely ultima-like, plus it's free

Sure feels like it with the weekly Ultima thread. At least the M&M ones felt more like discussions of games of that era.

M&M had a dedicated general on /vr/, that's why. Now you have the same exact threads made every single day by a single astroturfing retard. Not even a bot could be this soulless and incompetent. There can never be a normal CRPG thread on /v/ ever again because of this retard.

You should move on from RPGs and play something else. This is very sad.

I cant remember why people consider Akalabeth part of Ultima other than some of the ground work that led to Ultima I. Fid it take place in Sosaria? Is Lord British in it?

I vaguely remember the name Alkabeth being used for something in the early Ultima games. Other than that I just assume it's because it was the game immediately before U1.

Neat, thanks.

Were any of the console iterations of the Ultima series worth a damn? Only ever played the PC versions of the OG three, and I believe bits of 5 & 9.

The First Age of Darkness is fascinating, if not necessarily good. It's fun seeing all those experimental, near-nonsensical features that clearly show how immature CRPGs were at the time in action. HP and Skill systems are notably weird as fuck. The most fun part for me was figuring out dungeon monsters' special abilities. They steal your weapons, eat your armor, turn invinsible, disguise as chests, suck food out of your tummy, reduce your stats, and do all kinds of funny business in hopes that you wouldn't notice. It's quite rewarding catching a fucker in the act and not falling for the same trick again. The game overall is pretty short and actually fun with a guide. I doubt that someone who asks which game they should start with when every entry in the series is clearly numbered would care about the history of the genre, but if anyone else is - it's kind of fun.

>some of the ground work that led to Ultima I
That's pretty much it. They share the same antagonist, Mondain the Sorcerer, but take place in different universes as he's alive and well in The First Age of Darkness despite being killed in Akalabeth.
