It'll prob have its stable european/SA playbase like dota come full release, but i stopped playing when they changed the map to 3 lanes and teleporters. Rotating and ganking felt really fluid when there were 4 and having actual solo lanes was nice.

I went back when they did the shop update but my stack's MMR was too high from before they added ranks so we were just getting shit stomped by people that kept playing in the 6~ month break we took.

They've changed it so the team securing the souls gets like an extra 150ms to secure the last hit before the enemy team is allowed to deny it. You basically can't get any of your souls denied unless you're not making any attempt to secure them. It's a pretty irrelevant feature at this point.

perfectly CSing in deadlock is inherent, and denies are heavily biased towards the defender; you cannot deny an orb someone is attempting to secure unless they completely fuck up. scripted CSing in dota is completely uncontestable. your income will completely be starved out.
deadlock gun carries, unless given an absurd gold lead, do not instantly win teamfights just by having perfect aim. in fact, in team fights, most gun carries will achieve quite good results due to characters like dynamo, mo and krill, holliday, and lash delivering them immobilized targets. in these cases, the aimbotter and the normal player are literally doing the exact same damage output.
in dota, the objective progress is largely obscured from the team that would seek to interrupt it being taken. this, along with mechanics like smoke of deceit and general ambushing from the fog is completely gone against the cheater. in deadlock, all of the objectives nearly instantly warn the opposing team they are being touched, and the fog of war doesn't even exist. even just getting jumped from a rooftop would still require the cheater to have the presence of mind to turn their camera occasionally and look at potential areas of danger to see if someone is hiding there.

It's Icefrog trying to appeal to the TF2 crowd with the DOTA formula. It doesn't work, because no one in their right mind would stick with that format once they know exactly how every game goes. It isn't about your skill with the character, it's about how well you conform to the meta game, and how consistent you can be in doing that. (Which only slightly applied to the Medic in TF2.) There's no room to just fuck around and have fun with no goal in mind in Deadlock, so it doesn't matter how fun or quirky the characters are, it doesn't matter how stylish they are.
If winning depends on absolutely everyone on your team playing competently, and no one can pick up the slack for the others, and if that community will get pissy with you for actually experimenting and trying different strategies, there's no reason to play the game. It's made for a really small niche of people no one wants to play video games with.

My two problems with the game:

1. Visual style. Going for this whole 19-20 century occultism and demonology theme is genius but they need to push it harder and lean into Hellboy/The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen character stylization. Right now there are like 4-5 characters who fit into it, mainly Abrams, Infernus, Lash and Geist. Others looks completely random and out of place ruining the theme.

2. Characters kits and gameplay flow. Icefraud approaches hero's kit the same way as in dota with no regard for the "feel" of the kit which is important in a full 3d action game unlike in dota. And what I mean is how hero's abillities feel and play when you use them and chain them into one after another. For example Lash and Beebop (not counting his ult) feel great, Nutty Professor feels awful.

Tryhards in TF2 didn't matter, because there was nothing at stake. There were no permanent consequences for winning or losing games. They'd pubstomp, or enjoy the challenge of trying to carry a shitty team. And everyone else would be able to keep having fun. Their enjoyment of the game wasn't contingent on winning. When matchmaking is the only way to play the game, and the consequences of losing are to get relegated into playing with people who don't know their asses from their elbows and can't communicate, that means everyone suffers.
The tryhard isn't playing the game he wants to, and the casuals are getting bitched at for not being optimal by the tryhards. The whole experience falls apart. Especially in such a technical game

The real reason Deadlock fell off is because they released absolutely retarded pants on head updates and rightfully got called stupid for doing them.
This caused the devs to seethe so hard that they stopped updating the beta and the hero testing labs and made a super secret beta of nothing but ball suckers, no i'm not making this up.
Right now the beta you can get access too by a friend inviting you hasn't been updated since the beginning of the year and the super secret beta for streamers and such has like 12 new characters and changes lmao.

valve are hacks and scammers. you purchase cosmetics to support them they break the cosmetics and don't fix them for years. when you send in a ticket to steam 6 months after it's broken they tell you to go beg on reddit for upvotes and maybe the developer will fix it. years after stuff breaks it's not fixed and that's stuff you pay for.
