I'm in my childhood home town and was walking home today after visiting my parents, I was passing by places that I knew inside and out when I was 10 and some of them still looked the same but it felt so lifeless compared to back then.
It's like it's been so long that you have lost that connection with your young self, the place is still there, unchanged but you are so far removed from the kid that was connected to it that it doesn't mean anything anymore.
That kid had potential, every single member of his family since he was born was still alive, friends everywhere in the area, now you're just a relic looking at some buildings in an empty neighborhood.
