The gunplay is jank (recoil and bullet spread are random and don't go where you aim), movement speed is way too high, and enemies are hard to tell apart from both your teammates and most of the environment. Also, there are serious netcode issues that are impacting hit registration and ttk. Try a round of the initiation mode against bots and you'll notice a massive difference.

I have 13 hours played in the beta so far. We are so back. Plus its easier then ever for my to play my shotgun recon with the new game mode.

I haven't played a Battlefield game since BF2, but I'm enjoying the beta. That said, the smaller maps could be an issue in the long run, so I hope there are more open ones on release.

I honestly haven't had a terrible time with the movement or gunplay, I feel pretty competent when I get into straight up fights. My complaints so far about 6 are mostly down to map design, there are just way too many paths and angles (especially on Cairo) and it makes aggressive objective play a nightmare, you just can't account for all the directions an enemy might come from so it turns into an endless cycle of kill one guy and then die to somebody coming from a random other direction, made worse by how cluttered the maps are. It's like the chaos of Metro/Locker but without the defined lines of battle those maps had, there are just people running around fucking everywhere.

Yeah I basically only use sniper rifles when some enemy sniper is pissing me off and I need to deal with him. I do like doing actual RECON stuff though, spotting enemies with drones and using target designators etc., some of the best times I ever had in BF4 were when I'd get a full 4 man squad of friends together and get up on some high point with a recon, 2 engineers with Javelins, and a support, and just fuck every enemy vehicle and helicopter in sight up the ass all game.

I really liked both. The real magic of 1942 was the modding scene though, most famously the Desert Combat mod (which turned it into basically the Gulf War and was really high quality for a mod, I think the devs ended up at DICE) but there were a ton of other standouts and weird-ass mods as well, everything from the WW2 realism mod XWW2, to a post-apocalyptic vehicle combat one based on Interstate 76, a pretty solid Star Wars mod that inspired Battlefront (I think some of the mod devs may have worked on it?), to an absolutely insane cartoony pirate one that was a ton of fun. Oh and Eve of Destruction, a pretty good Vietnam mod that probably led to BF:Vietnam.

Vietnam didn't have the same impact but, as I said in a previous comment, was fun and very kino, the best part was that it had a bunch of real songs like Fortunate Son, Ride of the Valkyries, etc. and if you were driving/flying a vehicle you could choose to play them and everybody else inside could hear it. That game along with GTA:VC and SA are probably what got me into classic rock in general.

My favorite thing about 1942 and its mods was all the huge vehicles that could be walked around in/on (though the physics were jank).
The pirates mod had large galleons, you could climb up onto other ships and swordfight, you could climb up the crow's nest and parachute down. The star wars mod had corvettes, star destroyers, the millennium falcon, all of which you could run around in while they were moving. IS82 had blimps with interiors. Desert Combat had an AC-130 you could drive a Humvee into.

the beta was underwhelming. it really just felt like a thirdworld shitfest. nobody communicates (not that it's even needed) and instead it's just running around aimlessly. it never felt like there was a cohesive push for an objective or any satisfying victory. voice chat goes unused unless it's some spixican starts heavy breathing and slurping his straw. text chat amounts to "is this game laggy for anyone else???" and that's it.
i haven't played much battlefield, but I recall in the old server-based ones people would go nuts in the chat when a round ended, there was actual communication and it didnt play like ADHD CoD slop.

I've tried the DMRs but I've really struggled to find situations where they make sense, seems like you're almost always better off with either a full auto or an actual sniper rifle. Sucks because I really enjoyed them in BF4 too.

In terms of weapons I do like, the second AR (Galil ACE clone I think?) and the drum-fed LMG are really solid, that LMG in particular is basically a super-controllable midrange laser beam with enough ammo to kill 3 or 4 guys without reloading.

II is zoomie. In Bad Company 1 multiplayer you could flatten the ENTIRE map with artillary. Not a single piece of cover remaining. And C4 would make MASSIVE CRATERS. So much so it was viable to explode the ground with anything you had, and crouch in the hole for cover. Common to use that foxhole you made to get under a tank to C4 it from below too. The destruction was so complete it actually hurt the game a bit. But entirely worth it. In BC2 they kept destruction on the extreme side but kept structural elements like support columns and stairs from being destroyed in some cases. BF3 completely overhauled the system and turned into cookie-cutter destruction. Buildings could only be broken in predefined ways, not dynamically, and not completely like BC1. 4 took it way further and basically removed it compared to previous titles in favor of prescripted destruction with large set piece destruction moments called "Levolution."

You don't want to see 2143. There would be no commanders, no moving titans (too hard to code). No aircraft spawns on the ground or in the titan hangars. I doubt they would even include the artillery guns on the titans because the focus groups would whine about them. Even if you only play the weapon lock playlist there's nothing stopping you from being aggressive as a scout and holding objectives with it. Having team mates know there's enemies on the objective or about to enter the objective via the tugs is great. Plus you should always have the 1.0x ads side-sight attachment for CQC. Here is awkward because it doesn't work in the beta. You can have the indicator to lean over if crouched and it won't lean, or you're facing 2 degrees off "center" for the auto-lean (the Gibraltar map's zone E in Conquest, crouch near the AA guns[?] on that zone) and it won't work.

In BF4, you knew if you were next to a wall, you'd be able to lean out if ADS. But if you were crouched behind sandbags or a concrete block, you wouldn't (bar the sides).

Holy fuck it’s never been easier to quick-scope in a battlefield game. It hits that sweet spot between call of duty and battlefield sniping.

The problem with this game is that the sniper rifles have no bullet drop, just point and click. It lets tons of shit players get free kills.

The other problem is half the team is support and never uses smokes for pushes, most players are just fucking retarded in general in battlefield. Its either larpfags, killfarmfags or useless dudeweed guys taking up server slots.

Funny enough, that's exactly how I feel about 1. I thought it was hugely disappointing, particularly in terms of its very unsatisfying gunplay and poor infantry vs. vehicle balance, and it's really weird to see people with nostalgia for it now.

Personally I think the Battlefield formula just hands down works best for a modern setting, and even as much as I loved 1942 the fact that the modern Desert Combat mod was more popular than the vanilla game for quite a while shows it's always been true.
