There really isn't anything else to be said. The genre reached it's logical finish line with Eternal.
All we can do now is mod it further and forget The Dark Asses.

Eternal is so weird in retrospect. >Takes the more grounded focus of 2016 and flips it into a more arcade focused experience. Complete with extra lives. >Lead Developer blatantly admits he remade the entire game after watching a guys 2016 play-through where he switched weapons a lot and a thought it looked cool. >Doomguy magically has a floating fortress hubworld in space somehow despite the cliffhanger of the past game trapping him in hell. >80% of the levels don’t even take place on earth, despite the hook of the game being Doom 2s’ hell on earth to 2016’s Doom 1 >Seriously 50% of the levels take place in fantasy medieval “night sentinel” areas. Like who played D44M and went “oh man these grounded connected industrial and hell areas are so boring let’s make the next game teleporting between Super Mario bowser castles instead.” >2016 set up Samuel Hayden to be the Vergil to Doomguys Dante. You can’t tell me that the Marauder boss fight wasn’t meant to be Hayden at some point. >The soundtrack is held together by strings and shoelaces because the developers hated the composer for seemingly no reason. >Series plot gets hijacked and hyper focuses on the deviantart OC fantasy “300” Spartans ripoff and even has a scene ripped straight from avengers endgame. >Glosses over the energy crisis that drove the UAC in the last game >Glosses over the hell invasion of earth. >The usual defense of all this nonsense is that “it’s Doom bro it was never taken seriously” is completely shattered when they made a game after Eternal that takes itself super duper seriously.
Eternal gets a lot of shitflinging for its gameplay but the entire game feels like some bizarre anomaly years afterwards. I’m surprised Bethesda didn’t protest a lot of the 180 design decisions of Eternal.

it was built to cater to retarded soulsfags and pillage their wallets, and to that end it succeeded tremendously, and that's all Bethesda cares about
>>717684967 >Exultia is 50% Argent D'Nur, 50% Hell >Sentinel Prime is literally just the conclusion to Mars Core, a boss level >Taras Nabad >World Spear
That's it, roughly 3 levels and a half take place in Argent D'Nur, out of 19 or so levels
Pretty far from 50% of all levels in the game

It's my favorite nuDoom.
HOWEVER the problems: >meleeing with blood punch is the dumbest thing ever and shouldn't even be in the game. huge heavy punch animation, loud cracking sound like it hurts, yet you can punch a zombie 30 times without doing anything. game shouldn't allow you to even try meleeing without having blood punch >combat is generally too obsessed with avoiding enemies and dashing away from them instead of fighting them like a man >overly busy gameplay - the gunplay is already very hectic so adding frost bombs and grenades and decoys and flame belching to the mix is just unnecessary gameplay clutter >the story loses its understanding of "less is more" and honestly goes full retard in the DLC. nothing in any other doom game is as retarded as the story of The Ancient Gods

of course there's no argument, you literally just lied through your teeth, the only natural response to that is to call you a stupid fucking liar
2016 simply no longer satisfies after playing the fuck out of Eternal.
The enemy roster alone makes me not want to go back to the poorly paced and stale 2016 ever again

I played this recently and I'm honestly surprised how bad it was. It's like some 2008~ cover shooter but instead of having only 4-6 hours of mediocre shooting it's like a dozen hours of the most boring filler content imaginable.
>>717684631 >>Lead Developer blatantly admits he remade the entire game after watching a guys 2016 play-through where he switched weapons a lot and a thought it looked cool.
No, he remade the game because they got so far and realized it was too easy.

I like the second one better, the story is more cheesy, but the environments change, and the ai is still pretty fun to fight. They change it up more often.

also, on a side note, the first Fear has a bunch of short sections where its like trying to be like Half Life with the vent traveling, but idk, it just makes more sense and works better in HL, although even it has too much of that kind of crap.
