Your chart happened to MMOs. Everquest was the peak. It turns out you can't remove all challenge, want, and comptetition and still provide actual dopamine and adrenaline. I got into Friends and family closed beta and quit after I got Ateish, the entire game was bowling with the inflated gutter guards (they even lied about world PVP which ended up withering and sucking the entire time). You should want Abashi`s Rod of Disempowerment, you should want it for years and have to see the few people on the server with one walk by you and you feel like shit. You shouldn't get welfare epics or a "pity system". The fun is the struggle, the fun is your body rotting in Sebilis jugs at 4am with no one wanting to help you and no coffin summon money. You should FEAR the fucking game world you partialism retard gutter guard baby rolling your keyboard as your Gary Stu super hero dressed up in clown welfare epics. Only once you perserve and triumph with the support of your guild in a competition open world competition do you get the dopamine.
You don't deserve MMOs so they left you. Enjoy your research paneled casualfests.

the novelty of socializing online fell apart, and instead of trying to advance their social features, they all transitioned into being offline. plus no one's got attention span or time for it.

corporate banking class took over publishing and therefore controlled development. the penny pinchers realized that they could personally get the most money if they pump and dump a new game rather than keep a game going for 5+ years. So they make games to make money, not games to be persistent online worlds. Since these games take about 5 years to develop, even if you piss off your old player base, enough time has passed that theres a new generation of suckers to trick.
