Not a baby, but I feel like the meta doesn't actually make all that much of a difference to me unless I pick something with terrible acceleration. I have a decent chance of placing well if I don't get hit by many items and I have a decent chance of placing at the end when I get hit a lot. There are also times when I accidentally bag and get lucky. Picking a meta combo doesn't really change the outcome all that much. Maybe it would matter much if I was significantly better, but I've also noticed some of the best players, including those babies, will still place well reasonably consistently even when they pick karts that aren't all that great.
