Digimon have always been mishmashy pastiches of random crap, they don't have a defined design philosophy like Pokemon, with Pokemon you'd never see something like Angewomon or whatever the modern equivalent is, at most you get a Gardevoir or a Tsareena that evokes the idea of femininity but is still pretty much just simple shapes and colors, in Digimon you have sheet ghosts, cute mouses, muscular dinosaurs with cybernetic augments and giant naked white women all in the same package.

Digimon experiments with it's franchise without fear of backlash or failure. The first 3 Digimon World games were entirely different genres from each other, while most consider them bad they heavily resonated with the right people.

The first anime had the theme of adventure and discovery, the second travel and meeting people across different countries and language, the third creativity and Digimon existing in a real life setting and the fourth adopting a toku like superhero story.

Pokemon has been the exact same game it's been since Red and Blue and the anime was Ash has his gym trials in X region and losing, it's a cry for help and bitterness.
