To answer your question I've had runs in Lunatic Conquest where I've played with characters like Berserker Charlotte, Master Ninja Laslow, hell even Peri, and they can all turn out to be pretty good, and again even if they didn't you can easily use them as pair up or attack bots. Compare it to older games, what am I supposed to do with characters like Kent or Lugh if they turn out to be shit?

She gets lightning axe at C+ which is a good combat art with 1shot potential on alot of things. Considering that her spell list is low might low weight, her ability to pivot into axes is actually super good. Lightning Axe with Crusher is like 18 might + Annettes Mag + 4 from Lightning Axe + Annettes Res (which can be easily buffed by Ward/Purewater) + whatever else you feel like piling on between Rally's, Supports, Personal Skills etc.,= Number very big for almost zero investment

Mozu provides excellent and consistent damage which makes her an ideal boss killer for the entirety of CQ, on top of giving you exclusive access to the very potent Sniper class.
Selena, while being pretty mediocre in combat, provides a lot of utility as CQ's only gen 1 flying staff bot outside of Azura but are you really going to sacrifice your dancer for that?.
Felicia is very important especially in early CQ as a mage killer, granted Kaze (who you forgot to mention, so either you're retarded or just forgot him) will probably take over that role when you get him. She's still one of your best support and staff bots even after that.
Leo is a popular carry thanks to being a bulky and strong mage that can abuse horse spirit real good.
Charlotte, while requiring babying to actually get rolling, is pretty hilarious and can easily reach 100% crit chance on lunatic with the right build and load out.
Pretty much any kid can be made to work with the right parents.
And that's not to get into units that are a bit more niche but still very important in parts of the game (Effie, Odin, Keaton, etc)

I would Love an FE game that had a smaller cast but each member had relationships with everyone else, and during the course of a chapter their relationship dynamics could change. imagine having shit like one of your axe bros dying and then after you beat the chapter his other axe bro swears to have revenge for his fallen brother, you could even have a death effect characters statistically where some would get a buff while others would get a debuff to reflect how they deal with the passing, some are gonna be shook and won't have their heart in the battle, while others would throw themselves into it using their grief as fuel for battle, which could be shown as gaining crit chance/attack but also losing crit evade/avoid.

MU comes back but is explicitly a tactician for the army with no special blood or great destiny. Just a vehicle for the player to experience the story and receive exposition.
Reduce the number of romanceable characters to 5 women for male MUs and 5 men for FeMUs plus one bisexual character. In return, greatly expand upon the romance/support element, basically add an entire romance visual novel inside of your strategy game.
Let characters pass around skills via support chains, some support chains can unlock class changes for certain characters (but no class swapping otherwise). S supports are back but no children.

Return to Fates pair up and class balance, giving single weapon classes extra invisible stats and S weapon rank was a cool idea even if the S rank weapons all sucked.

barring them, it is actually females who go swordmaster most often, either Catria/Palla for physical offense, or Marisha/maybe Katarina for levin sword
horseman is "better" in the ideal world where your unit has all the stats and all the weapon ranks in the world, which even among your group of ~10 or so mainstay units that you will deploy over the course of a run, will not often be true for more than 1 or 2
a difference of 5 points in speed and +1 in weapon rank (that will represent the difference between being able to use a wyrmslayer or not) is not something you can just ignore

It's very easy to get a horseman to be better than a swordmaster without any statboosters. Have you considered killing enemies to get exp? Did you know that you can wait until level 20 to promote your units?
Rody is an excellent horseman (far better than Luke), and Frey/Navarre/Cain can do the job if you want to train someone later on. Navarre and Cain have enough sword rank to use the wyrmslayer at base, not that it matters because it's trivial to get a bit of sword wexp before chapter 22.

it is 22 speed you need to cap out as a horseman, the vast majority of units don't reach that even at a high promoted level, it is literally not even at a turn count issue at that point, go check the averages yourself
if your best argument in favor of horseman being better is that it is good on a select few male units at the endgame, then it does not disprove in any way that swordmaster is just better overall, because it is strictly better on every unit before then, and even at the end it's still better on all females by virtue of being the only option available
