Its not pointless if it clues you in to what happened, what the problem is, and what you need to do to fix the problem.

It CAN be pointless if you actually stumble upon ash twin teleport into ash twin project and solve it, which im sure some people have done
You still need to know what shutting down the project itself accomplishes for you in the grand scheme of things, or rather what to do with the power source
Then theres also the funny haha paradox thing that you either figure out by accident or by understanding the thing by reading the logs

Outer Wilds would be more like if in Mario 64 only one level has stars that lead to the final bowser fight and every other painting is pointless or has a toad giving you hints about the only useful level.

The critical path takes like 10 minutes and everything else is just frivolous window dressing that gives you a bunch of pointless flavor text just reworded in different ways. You can find basically everything you need to know about what happened to the nomai and what they were doing just in the three small areas of the critical path (out of the hundreds of pointless areas in the game)
