Yeah FFXIV and the optimism for FFXIV I had from that media tour helped me push forward. That's how optimistic I was.
And for anyone who hasn't been cheated on, had tens of thousands of dollars of property, had their work auth in the USA lost and them sent back to Canada unable to move to San Diego after landing a 220k/year job and needing to decline that cause "lul work auth", and then experienced mental abuse from their ex fiance tormenting them with the most VICIOUS shit ever-- THAT IS A FUCK TON OF OPTIMISM. And I wouldn't wish the absolute BARRAGE of brutality I experienced on anyone else.

I only say that PURELY to showcase how optimistic I Was about FFXIV after the media tour. AKA: VERY VERY VERY MUCH.

Wow, that’s just all I have to say right now but Endwalker actually just broke me.

I love Final Fantasy, I always have since as a kid, it’s been a very big part for me. Especially XIV because when I first started playing it was during the pandemic and a lot of things were happening to me. I had just started college, I was also starting to be in a very toxic relationship, losing friends, failing classes but out of all the things that stayed consistent was playing XIV.

I remember going through ARR/ARA, when I was quarantined in my dorms basement for 11 days, I remember the emotional heartbreak I felt during Heavensward, I remember the feeling of freedom of going through Stormblood and not having a toxic partner, I remember going through my senior year of college as a Warrior of Darkness

And now I’m graduated, got my degree, got an entry level job in my field and finally finished Endwalker just an hour ago (6.0 that is, none of the patch MSQs)

Idk what it was exactly, maybe it was just the fact that I came so far from when I started this journey and just looking at the credits, thinking of everything I’ve been through. That in itself was already making me emotional

And then I saw it

“Warrior of Light: John Artemus”

I literally BAWLED my eyes out, literally typing this up is getting me emotional again lmao

But thank you to all have shown me the upmost kindness in this game, I cherish every single one of you Warriors of Light

Dawntrail's writing is super funny, because it presents the tribals as le heckin' whole and valid latinx people, but then they are also too stupid to run basic civilization and need magic to survive. Did the troons responsible for Dawntrail not notice that?

The problem with Square Enix is the majority of the companies worth is based on vibe, it's similar to Tesla. They don't really make good games anymore and haven't for years, people just like them because of their history and memberberries, Anything half decent they release is a remake / remaster and that is not sustainable.

They have a handful of named developers everyone knows, who are a few years away from retirement. When they leave they will be a company with a bunch of faceless staff, making bad games for way too much money.

Square Enix are 5-10 years away from utter catastrophe and stock price collapse.

As for ff14, the 10 year story arc is long over, they have released the game on too many platforms making it hard to developer for now, the engine is old and riddled with issues they refuse to fix. Most of the good developers are bored of working on it and want to work on other things now.

Square Enix, or more accurately Yoshi P does not want to invest a lot of money into XIV to re-invigorate it for the future and so it's dying. The engine needs a major revamp, the graphics need to be properly updated.

If he really cared, he would spend millions updating the engine to be more modern and create a writing team to make a new 10 year story arc. He doesn't want to do this, cause he has no passion for it anymore.

They just keep pumping out the same boring formula, cause the game is effectively in retirement mode now.

I'm not Japanese, nor do I live in Japan, so I can't say for certain, but I remember hearing that in Japanese work culture that seniority is played up to an autistic degree. If I understand right, it's why the previous story writer got promoted, and it's why Yoshi was promoted to a board position(?) at one point. Basically as people stay with a company, there's an expectation that they'll be promoted and move through the ranks even if they're a perfect fit where they are already. That and even the talentless eventually "fall upwards" into positions that give them enough power to torch the end product. It's a recipe for failure but it's baked into the national culture from what I'm to understand. (Not to imply more western systems are any better; they're a mess in their own rights)

The big bad monster sealed away for dozens of years being a wet fart was a misstep. Paladin is unironically one of the most technical jobs in the game even after the rework that cut that down. I think they straight-up have the most buttons in the game, they have certain traits on a lot of their abilities that make them situationally useful, a ton of situational utility leftover, some technical tricks to help with uptime or adjusting to mechanics (i.e. saving Divine Might for movement, holding Sword Oath stacks), and the most complete partner mitigation stuff (able to Sheltron yourself and Intervene your tanking partner for dual-busters, or if you're off-tanking you can use your useless self-mit to further defend the main tank).

Its utility is so strong that half of the time I do a duty on a different tank I wind up wishing I had come as Paladin to save my dumbass party, which is a good show that it's one of the jobs that still has a defined identity. It's one of the few jobs that still feels very complete and fun, with a lot of skill expression that's not clunky. It hasn't been fun-crept by job changes over the years like DRK and WAR. I still miss the physical/magic phase gameplay style (rather than it being wrapped up in a single burst phase) and having a DoT to manage, but otherwise it's very good.
