>deep down know that tf2 died a long time ago
>can't let it go
Anonymous No.717727971 >>717728315
I could let it go if any multiplayer vidya could be half as fun as tf2
but the developers that make those games do not seem interested in making fun games, only "engagement optimized" games

Community servers somewhat died, this was inevitable thanks to funneling into vanilla gameplay through quickplay and matchmaking; additionally major server groups like Skial and Golden Machine Gun being helmed by morons. Ironically a contributor to this was also F2P, specifically because there was a pretty vibrant scene for the pirated version of the game and pirate-friendly community servers, which died completely after the game just became available for everybody.

But it's still not dead in the typical sense, that's mostly pushed on /v/ by former bot hosters.

TF2 may be hobbling with a cane, walking with a limp, but it's still lively.

I always see this posted when TF2 is brought up and it always sounds like battered woman syndrome.

I doubt you actually try to give other multiplayer games a shot.

I have
In recent memory I have tried the following:
-monster hunter wilds
-splitgate 2
-mecha break (only the beta, ended up getting gated off by no linux supported)
-hunt showdown
-marvel rivals
as multiplayer games, all of them sucked in one way or the other

not him, i had 680 hours in tf2 back in 2016, stopped playing for 2 years, came back for a little in 2018, stopped again and never gone back.
most multiplayer ISN'T as fun as tf2 was, but then again, the tf2 i enjoyed most has been gone for 10 years now, mann v machine was a mistake, and using it as a subscription system with the mann tickets caused future events to become pay to play bullshit.

tf2 trannies are the most mindbroken actual videogame posters (if they even play the game, and just erp in furry servers or jerk off about hats instead) on this website

must have been gut wrenching to come back in 2018 and see just how much both valve and compniggers ruined the game

TF2 was its people. People either stuck around, lifeless nostalgic husks, or moved on. To other shit. Worse shit. Discord-only shit.

it was the guns with rarities that did me on, skins that look like dogshit, but everyone using them because they're a flex.
back in my day you wore cheaters lament and whatever 'genuine' bits you got from some random game on your steam list, all to flex on the gibbus and gogglers waiting on their first hat drop.
comp wasn't really an issue, since i only played on community servers, but every server was at like, 9 players total, so you were stomping or getting stomped almost entirely based on which team all the f2p people got balanced onto.
even the 2fort servers i used to frequent were dead empty, just loads of achievement /item farm servers with 24/24 players.

Modern multiplayer games are made for the controller, use awful matchmaking and are designed to be barely fun.
The industry has normalized making bad multiplayer games, so anything made before 2009 naturally has an edge.

When Classic releases in Steam it *might* being people back. 500 max. For a month maybe...

The problem with modern multiplayer games is they try to suck up as much of your attention as possible even if it's not strictly for fun. TF2 was ORIGINALLY (but probably not anymore) a toy given to the community to play with how they wish, and was almost entirely non-committal fun. Games like CS2, OW2 or Marvel Rivals are jobs disguised as games and try to trick you into paying the devs exorbitant amounts of time or money for the opportunity to work for them.

That's the issue with all live service slop, it's very nature will repulse (some, non mentally ill) people. Also, EOS a-coming, bye bye to all your skins.

It was like watching a beloved pet slowly wither after being hit by a car and no one at Valve wanted to call a vet. Coming back in 2018 was this weird whiplash-menus looked shinier, maps felt emptier, and suddenly every pub looked like a tryhard warm-up for the next failed RGL season. Comp-infused vanilla drained all the chaotic soul out of it. Everyone was either sweating or AFK hat farming on idle servers. Really made you feel like the clown at a funeral.

Modern TF2 just wants you to buy keys and MvM tickets.
