Replaying all Souls games, which version of 2 should I play?
Most say SotFS is better, others say vanilla is better.

I think SotFS is interesting due to better graphics (still mad about the downgrade back then) but I hear they did retarded enemy spams?

the spawn thing is blown out of proportion. It improved lots of enemy spawns while, yes, also making a few worse. Overall it is still the better version, dont let screaming retards that never even played the games tell you otherwise.

surely the enemy spam cant be worse than PTDE

That looks like you ran through the whole graveyard aggroing everything you could.

SotFS is almost universally better than the original DS2, especially in terms of enemy layout and the lack of ganks.

Oh wow, so what you're saying it's the player's fault for blindly rushing into an area and aggroing all the enemies at once. So, it's out of context gameplay that falsely presents the game as more spammy than it actually is? That's crazy

Look son, I watched 1-2 videos comparing vanilla DS2 vs the remaster and one guy was crying about how much more enemies they throw at you and how you get jumped by 5 enemies constantly.
I came here asking for you guys opinions cuz
1.youtubers are often fags
2.I wanted to talk about souls games

Don't know why you are so upset by that.

i've completed both scholar and vanilla and vanilla is better for a newb because the enemy placement isn't pants on head mega retardo and the upgrade pacing makes sense

The sizes of the stamina and HP bars imply that the fag in your vids already played the games for hours, successfully enough to amass that many souls, and KNEW what awaited him in those locations.
So yeah, that shit was done deliberately.

Played Scholar for the first time this summer and then 1 right after that.
Can't say placement in Scholar was that much worse than, say, church or new londo.
If you take your time going through it's mostly fine. Didn't like the first DLC though.

I fail to see what's retarded about the enemy placement

upgrading enchanted weapons in vanilla is a slog because you always have to trek all the way to iron keep. Effectively limiting what non-linearity there is in your progression.

i think you should play both. vanilla without dlc, then sotfs with dlc, because the dlc wasnt changed, aside from the keys to get in them being placed sensibly in the world.
Anonymous No.717747354
Don't get tricked by gank complainers. Enemy ai in sotfs was changed so that only two enemies attack you at a time instead of everything jumping you at once (you're also retarded if you let yourself get surrounded in the first place)

Enemy spam is only a legitimate problem in Iron Keep due to the Alonne Knights having absurd (bugged?) aggro ranges.

The main difference is the dull ember placement. In vanilla it takes way longer to unlock infusions, and since regular weapon scaling is shit in DS2 it kinda matters. Most weapons you want to meet base stats and infuse lightning. In SOTFS you pick up the ember in Lost Bastille, whereas in vanilla it's in Iron Keep.

DS2 isn't worth playing more than once.
Anonymous No.717748664
Yesterday I started up a new Dark Souls 2 playthrough with the ultimate goal of using Moonlight but holy shit I forgot how much I hate Int. Sniping people from afar is boring to me and even the addition of just one more enemy made things nightmareish with the lack of crowd control. I ended up stopping at Last Bastille. Maybe I'll do a Faith run of Demon's Souls to scratch my itch.

How did the level design get worse with each subsequent game? My favorite is still Dark Souls 1 but Demons Souls' levels are top tier.

Pirate DS2 version 1.0 and play that if you haven't.

Just play SotFS and you can even mod in what is essentially the trailer graphics. There are some easy to install overhauls to the lighting engine + textures that make it look awesome.
The problem? Animations. That was always DS2's issue. The enemies are animated so lifelessly and weightlessly.

The player animations look fine. The roll is absolutely smooth, for example. However, just look at shit like the Fume Knight where he just sort of moves his arm for his attacks.

>How did the level design get worse with each subsequent game?
From DS3, Fromsoft started to use their cell level design for their main content from Bloodborne's Chalice Dungeons. Once you notice it, you will start seeing the same sections being connected together like Lego plates. Also, there are stairs fucking everywhere when there shouldn't be. This is to break up the visual monotony, even though they have no purpose being there. All this has done is made Fromsoft games feel like a been there, done that experience, because on deeper inspection, we all have.

It didn't, Elden Ring ad Dark Souls 3 have better level design than Sekiro and Dark Souls 2 for example

Softs if you want to play online. There isn't THAT much of a difference between them. The OG has some weird design choices but so does Softs.

Iron had some fun stuff like that red spirit running away and baiting you in. Or those small puzzle pieces with barrel guys.

Havent' played it in years and think my first playthrough was str + a bit of faith.

Play SOTFS, all of its problems can be found in the base game as well.
>>717745601
You see, the difference is that in PTDE you can see the bones from far away, and if you walk slowly through the graveyard, the most skeletons you'll aggro at once will be two.
In SOTFS there's retarded gotcha enemy spam traps. The game is the easiest of all souls games due to slow enemy movement and general floatiness, but you have shit like the small drop in harvest valley. There's a corridor leading to an open area. To proceed, you need to fall down a small drop, which makes it impossible to turn back. The moment you enter, four enemies with shield-piercing sickles get aggroed off the screen and rush into the corridor. Their hitboxes are so big you can't exit. And you die, because at one point you'll run out of stamina dodging the laughably slow attacks. The enemies, of course, don't damage each other, so you're getting attacked by four at once.
The only solution is to sprint forward through the corridor into the open space without knowing what kind of threats are there, something you should never do in these games.
It's just bad design.

Vanilla with all the DLC's is better if I'm being honest. SOTFS was an attempt at rebalance that mostly just made the game worse. It turns many areas into complete gankfests and it just isn't fun to play.

Dex is good but int really only gets decent at the end of the game. I like to run the moonlight great sword so I have infinite ranged moves with the repair spell.
