They erected a Montreal studio to make FUGA, and then had to close it due to how poorly FUGA sold. I'm sure they only broke even with FUGA2/3 just basically being cheap standalone expansion packs.

They were also the company that SE tried to outsource the entire FF7 remake project to, they left them with it for 2-3 years before changing their minds

If they cut Niere from the story to have Vanilla be the full-fledged support character, and made the Secret Events actual epilogues and not a bunch of “The Future Refused to Change…” teasers for their next game, Fuga 3 would’ve been fine. It’s a shame the story had to hit such a sour note when the gameplay is the best.

The magical beings were there from Solatorobo, you’re not getting away from those so long as this is a prequel. As for the other point, I do agree that doing “Berman invades!” again was very much a let down story-wise, and you could’ve even had most of Baum, Stollen, and Flam’s parts in the story as allies without needing to go back to that being the basis of the plot.

NTA but Fuga 1 is a great story with lots of cool characters and interesting stakes and tension that gets wrapped up nicely in the end. Fuga 2 just has Jihl and Vanilla and then the real bad guy swoops in in the last chapter but ultimately nothing that happened in this game matters. First half of Fuga 3 is a retread of Fuga 1 but worse, then there's like 5 chapters of being in space with repetitive exposition about how humans fucked the earth. Then the bad guy jobs hard and is like "lol oh well I tried" and for some reason Blutwurst comes back and is the true final boss of the entire series but jobs even harder. And instead of letting it all rest there, now all the kids are various levels of "chosen one" bullshit and will once again be tied up into some never ending melodrama and suffer in perpetuity. It should have just stopped at the ending of Fuga 1 where they saved their parents, saved the country, saved the world and lived happily and peacefully as heroes.
