Probably once or twice, but I think it’s kind of silly to define myself by a hobby. Most of the tine I just say I ply a lot of games.

yeah when you sweat and play in comps for a genre and have networked a bit to always have buddies with you. Just being in a clan / guild grouping up makes you a gamer if it's a team work game. Otherwise achievement completion / autism to master a set of techniques skill on command makes you a gamer.
The rest are casuals and the divide will always be annoying as fuck for everyone involved cause how do you balance game play with someone crap, willing to learn and too good that they kill the fun for others.

Never. "Gamer" is a term made by the industry to sell pointless crap to people like gaming chairs, gaming drinks, gaming tampons and gaming snacks. It's just a manufactured identity based on consumption.
