>stole serum that gives her an instant power boost specifically for if she runs into a dangerous human
>runs into a dangerous human killing everything in her path
>waits until the human has already killed everyone to use the syringe
>gets defeated
Was she stupid?

How did she even know about Alphys's determination serum to begin with? Wasn't that supposed to be a secret project?

That's a good point actually. Maybe she was briefed on Alphys' work since she was assigned to guard the lab for a while, but I have no idea how Alphys wouldn't notice one of her DT syringes in missing and trace that back to her if that was the case.

I wouldn't say stupid, just very conflicted. She was literally always contemplating on killing him, if he killed anyone.
She was just struggling with her morals.
Deep down she really didn't want to kill Clover, and hoped they would change, by trying to appeal to their better nature.
When it's made very clear she has to act she does.

Martlet has shown to be very perceptive, and also incredibly good at deceit.
I wouldn't be surprised if she did some digging and discovered something she wasn't supposed to.
Plus while the amalgamates were a secret from the public, Alphy's using determination extracted from the humans souls on the Fallen Down monsters wasn't.
So I'm sure Martlet had hunch that using it would change and empower her in some way.

I remember hearing discussion of a potential UT Purple brought up before, and that gave me some ideas.

What if Gerson is the antagonist? He's not evil or anything, far from it. He just has to kill you and wants to give you a good death. So he's this incredibly powerful, but also honorable, warrior who's trying his hardest to kill you. Sort of like Wham in JoJo. And the perseverance angle comes in from you being so much weaker than every other protagonists, so you have to work harder to get through every encounter using planning, preparation, and strategy. The cloudy glasses and notebook hint at the perseverance human being more intellectual. Culminating in the final battle with Gerson, which has to be done on iron man mode. No saves. And if you die, that's the end.

It goes without saying that in Neutral, until Martlet comes clean, Clover had absolutely no idea the friendly scatter brained bird monster that was accompanying him that whole journey was contemplating on killing him.
There's also the fact it's highly likely that no one knows that Martlet had her contingency plan to stop a human rampage should it come down to that.
Unless Clover does a genocide and forces Martlet's hand, or does a Neutral where she decides to come clean, he'd have no idea that Martlet was biggest potential threat to their life, with how she was acting around him.

And now I can't stop thinking about the perseverance soul as Joseph Joestar.

Honestly would make for a cool fic/sprite comic to have the purple soul be someone who's forced to go around outsmarting the monsters instead of over powering them.

>>717754024
That's...actually a good point. Now that you mention it, yeah until Martlet comes clean, Clover would be oblivious to her intentions, and it's likely others wouldn't suspect what kind of things she's done behind the scenes.

Keep in mind this is likely still a child, so intellectual work is still going to be harder for him than it would be for an adult. Plus the monsters being kinda dumb makes the writing easier. It doesn't get in the way of the battles being satisfying and fun to read since those "battle genius" archetypes are usually surrounded by artificially stupid characters anyways to make them seem smarter.

Could still fix it some by having the perseverance soul be very unlucky. So even if his schemes work, there's usually some kind of complication that forces him to improvise. And of course, unlike the other monsters, Gerson isn't dumb. So simple tricks won't work on him.

Okay but like, literally every main cast member (except Dalv, technically) does that. Ceroba was doing that, Starlo does that, and of course, Flowey's technically doing that. Martlet hiding the fact that she's vaguely thinking over the idea of killing Clover doesn't make her "incredibly good at deceit", it just means she can refrain from telling Clover something.
I could keep a gun in my pocket whenever I hang out with my friends and not tell them, that doesn't make me a master of lies of trickery, it's literally just as simple as not telling someone something.

I was thinking you didn't run into Asgore in the game. He's not friends with Asgore and didn't spend his whole life down there, he's just there for a few days. As for why Gerson is hunting him, he wants to free the monsters, and to prove his strength against a human now that he's at the peak of his strength, since he was still young and inexperienced during the war.

Going with the JoJo theme. I'm thinking the perseverance soul meets some lesser boss monster during his journey who first serves as an antagonist, but then becomes his friend. Then later the boss monster sacrifices himself to save the human, and gives the human his soul as a final parting gift so he can exit the barrier. This soul also gives him some minor power boost, which makes him finally have a chance against Gerson.

I don't think it would change their stance. If they were willing to kill even children then why wouldn't they kill adults. The only difference with an adult is that they're much stronger.

Think any of the monsters paid for killing a bunch of children when they left the underground?
Anonymous No.717755963
>>717755670
I mean, if we didn't want them to kill children, maybe we shouldn't have sealed them underground with a lock than can most easily be broken with dead humans. Maybe also put up a sign at the cave's entrance telling people not to be idiots.

No, in the game the monsters are clearly depicted as getting a happy ending. And even if we try to nitpick and ignore developer intentions, what they did would have been considered acts of war, so they would have got off free after peace was made.

To be fair of all the characters you mentioned, outside of Flowey because of all his haxs, Martlet knows more about the other characters than they do about her.
Yeah sure Ceroba was being deceitful, but in her case, you could already tell something was fishy, it's just a matter of what.
But with Martlet you don't get that, because she's not only already fought you, she'd decided to activity help Clover, and yet throughout that journey, while acting positive, and kind, she was deliberating whether she would kill Clover or not.
That is very deceitful, because she's not being entirely honest with her intentions. She's done things behind the scenes, and no one seems to suspect her.

>She's done things behind the scenes, and no one seems to suspect her.
Yeah, because literally no one saw her. It's not very hard to sneak into a secret facility when the one person who operates it isn't even there and also chose not to lock any of their doors.
She's not being honest about her intentions, but she's also a royal guard, so you could probably figure that she's more loyal to her people and her nation than she would be to you, and therefore willing to kill you if need be. The syringe itself was unknown to us, but it's not exactly a big reveal that she was considering killing us if we became too much of a threat.

Still thinking about this lesser boss monster character. I have some ideas.

His name is Seele Solair. He's a fairy with his design being heavily based on on butterflies and dragonflies. He's got a roughly human shape, but a brilliantly colored body, with wings that catch the light and shimmer like rainbows.

His family were once powerful boss monsters on the surface. The source of their power was the sun. So when they were sealed underground, they lost their power and slowly withered away. They desperately wished to return to the sunlight and crowded around any scrap of it they could find in the underground. His current home is a small patch of greenery where a thin ray of sun shines into the underground.

Seele is a bit of a meathead and is obsessed with all things relating to beauty, particularly his own. The thing he prizes most is the beauty of his family technique, which involves scattering wing dust around in the air so it catches and refracts light, causing it to glitter in the air.

He tries to kill Perseverance for his soul so he can fulfill his families' generations long dream of basking in the sunlight once again. Lots of "moth to a flame" symbolism.

Should be fine, as long as it's not main topic of discussion. I don't think the drawanon stuff is what got the thread axed, since last weeks threads had more fetish stuff/art and it reached the bump limit. If anything it's usually gets axed when invaders from other threads come her, and start posting random shit.

Seele is also a very vain and melodramatic person. He does unnecessary poses whenever given the opportunity in the hopes that someone is watching and over reacts to basically everything. In his battle you can insult him to anger him, which raises his AT but lowers DEF and causes him to make mistakes. Complimenting him lowers AT but raises DEF due to a confidence boost.

I also think his exploits might have served as inspiration for a young Mettaton and his desire to be fabulous.
