Obsolete.
Ace combat 2:
Best arcade style game in the series.
Ace combat 3:
Horrible physics, overly focused on telling a boring story. Best mission variety and best branching campaign structure.
Ace combat 4:
Second best arcade game with the best story.
Ace combat 5:
Animu faggotry with one of the worst aircraft unlock system. Mission variety is a mixed bag, but it has plenty of planes and great customization when it comes to wingman.
Ace combat x:
Simply the goat. Semi dynamic campaign is just amazing.
Ace combat x-2:
Take x, make it a tom clancy fever dream with shit physics and some stupid tacked on multiplayer stuff.
Ace combat 6:
Huge battlefields are amazing but the plane variety sucks.
Ace combat 2 remake:
A shit version of 2. Music is worse, game is designed around the annoying awesome button and there is no more hidden shit.
Ace combat 7:
Meh. Drones are boring, bosses have plot armor until a specific point, the story is disjointed and the mission variety is passable at best. The dlc missions are the best part of the game.

The help guide still holds strong. Play 7 after the first three suggested games.

Anon, I've seen Pixy or PJ do way way more than what your wingman can do in 5, their kill count in the stats screen outnumbers the three combined regardless. Even if you give them FALKENs or Wyverns, they can't do shit with it when their AI is painfully ass

If you just wanna check it out, probably just play 7.
If you want to get into it, play 4, 5, and maybe Zero, then 7.
(I say "maybe Zero" because 7 has direct callbacks to 4 and 5 that you'll appreciate if you've played them first, but not to Zero).
If you really want to get into it, do the above, but also definitely play Zero and play the fan translation of 3. Then go from there with the other entries. The first two are underrated.
