Sony's games are already on PC so I don't get the whole denial about Sony as a thirdparty/multiplat focus. HD2 on Xbox and the job listing mentioning both Nintendo/Xbox by name. The funny thing is Nintendo predicted this shit more than 2 decades ago which is why changed focus

And apparently Nintendo will just get to make all the money having a monopoly on the console business. Because if you can't subsidize your hardware, this business model doesn't work.
That isn't to say you aren't right, I think the infinite console future is happening, but I think it's happening because Microsoft and Sony are at the point where they only make money on software so they're doing the greedy and short-sighted thing.

Anything more powerful just raises costs even higher and they're already too high. There's going to be a solid device with a great price and it'll just be the standard.

At this point consoles are just a shackle and they have been a detriment since 5th gen ended and home PCs became the best way to play games.
No company really wants to release only on one platform and being tied to eternally out of date console hardware and controllers is a massive detriment to a lot of genres.
The only reason they're hanging on at all is because their residual momentum from 6th gen has let them hang onto a portion of their former audience that publishers don't quite want to alienate.
