There was never a point in time where Gamecube had the best games. PS2 got bangers like Dark Cloud and Final Fantasy X early in it's life. Gamecube was sitting on Melee as it's only good game for a couple years before getting better stuff, but none of it ever surpassed the greatest the PS2 had to offer, not even RE4, and then PS2 got a better version of RE4 like a year later anyways.

Unlike Mario 64 there's no inherited frames of momentum when Fludd is active it hard cuts certain things like fall off from certain states, so it has downgraded movement from Mario 64. The Xbox releasing first didn't help it much in the long run. The real issue was third parties and how Nintendo was only now trying to win them back after fucking up hard with the N64. It only kinda worked, with still some of the biggest games and franchieses of that generation skipping Nintendo entirely.

It's equal parts funny and sad Nintendo went really hard to make Twin Snakes "thiers" and show how "hardcore" they are, only for Snake Eater to skip them entirely along with most Konami's "core" games.

To say nothing about Capcom and their 5 game "excusives"

The idea for the Wii U was them trying to win back the audience they brushed away for the casuals they caught for the Wii.
I think they half expected the cusuals to come back from the name alone, and the "hardcore" audience to look past the outdated hardware and to be impressed their new thing was on-par with the 360 and PS3 despite both being on the verge of being replaced

There was Gamecube port in works. IGN even has very short gameplay from it and early pre-release marketing had GC logo. It got cancelled because apparently just like with other Gamecube ports back then it was worked by one dude at TT who couldnt make it to release day of Xbox and PS2 versions and after release he got fired so he couldnt finish the port. All Radical Entertainment GC ports also were made by single guy too. If studio didnt had Gamecube autismo or turbo autismo about porting back then it meant no GC support.
