I would certainly hope so. No matter how hard you try worlds created are always somewhat static. Imagine if AI would actually simulate a small world for you where your actions actually impact the world.

You focusing on "tranny artists" shows that you don't understand what I'm talking about. Current games are limited by what the developers put in them because they have to handcraft each scenario the player might or might not encounter. Which means only things that the devs thought about can actually occur. If you simulate an entire world with AI I'm not talking about art being created by AI, I'm talking about the world reacting. Imagine an RPG where you play as a vendor, you spend a few hours grinding red cloth to sell it to some seamstress. Suddenly the common folk will start wearing red clothes, but because the nobility in the city wants to stand out from commoners they start wearing different colors as a result. It's all some minor shit like that where your actions will have a cascading effect because the world is not premade by the developer, but instead it's simulated by your actions. I assume we are a good 10-20 years away from this shit because AI is mostly used to cheaply and quickly generate shit art.

There are some other video games that he has fully AI controlled custom systems set up, for example Minecraft and Buckshot Roulette and Slay the Spire, but sometimes he just plays games himself with the AI as a copilot giving suggestions. In the case of Outer Wilds he did install a custom mod that lets Neuro control the space ship flight, however.

I do appreciate the fact that he obviously puts a lot of time, effort, and money into actively improving the capabilities of his system instead of just resting on his laurels. You can tell it's a passion project and it's kind of crazy that he hasn't gotten completely burned out yet.

I think people overestimate AI way too much and what they want is simply their imagination picturing something else entirely. The amount of power, resources and money thrown into making it work right now is pretty absurd so having a game with an open and dynamic world that can remain consistent with itself would require a level of processing power we simply can't attain and even we could, running it on a local system is impossible so we'd just turn into the final form of Games as a Service model. AKA we would quite literally not own our video games anymore because they'd have to ran off some city-sized server farm.
