Am i missing out on something here?
So, i enjoy trophy hunting and decided last year that i would 100% all yakuza games, and went from 1-4 and now i'm at Y5 and this game fucking sucks, it aint fun at all, the random encounters happen every 2 seconds and theres simply too much shit to do on the completion list.

will i miss out on some good experiences if i drop this shit?

3 4 and 5 were all worthless garbage hyped up by dorks that played this shit before 0, the only good game in the series, came out and blew away their sense of being in a secret club

I liked it when Kiryu was actually touchable and not a walking brick. Only in Yakuza 1 was he actually taking damage and wasn't toggling godmode canonically.

4 is fine... 3 is a bit of a mess with the substory system, 119 substories were too much for me.

how am i a pussy?

Do you start completism after the story?
Because that is of course the most boring way. The whole minigames and substories are located in different cities in the game. So you're supposed to do them first and then you continue to a new part of the game, and that's why this is my favorite Yakuza title of the franchise

I think is more of the ps3 engine had lost all of its shine after 4, it never significantly improved they just fixed the blocking hell that was 3.

yeah, i had beaten the game a few years back and only after beating all 4 games i started 100%ing them

Yakuza 5 is the worst in the series. After Yakuza 6. If you don't consider anything after 6 part of the series. You are literally not missing out on anything.

5 went too far, it packed too many heat actions and other mechanics that shared controls, effectively making some moves extremely difficult to pull off for no good reason. 0 managed to somewhat fix it by splitting many heat actions between different styles and heat levels.

5 is the best game in the series so far. Maybe don't try to 100% 5 games in a row if you're going to start whining about too much content. Yeah it's a big game, don't see the problem

In this case it's right. Grinding the same minigames in every single game is pointless. Casinos, mahjong, fishing, bowling, pool and most karaoke songs are the same shit every time.

Pretending to be retarded won't help you. You're 100% them, not just playing. Yeah you can have too much of a good thing. Do I need to bring out the cake analogy or can you cope without it

>will i miss out on some good experiences if i drop this shit?
Yes.

4 and 5 are the best games in the series.
6 is irredeemable trash.
7 is a departure from the old norms, and quite enjoyable, but 8 and the other spinoffs drop the ball once again.

>the blocking hell that was 3.
The blockathon problem was only present in "HD" ports, resulted by the game running > 30fps.
And unless you LITERALLY are an "spam square 2 win" ADHD moron, you could easily get around blocks with Grabs, throws, items, and other skills.

I think Yakker 5 is when the series started to become more of a soap opera than a video game. I think it had to do something with those open credit scenes.

It's definitely the point at which the staff started feeling the franchise fatigue. Sato said that they were getting tired of doing the same thing again. Yokoyama bragged that his idea to do 5 cities and 5 protagonists caused serious anguish and panic over deadlines. If you played the PS3 era spinoffs, you could tell they enjoyed making those a lot more.

Say what you want, but 4 had a more coherent story and didn't have to end with the final boss telling you has no idea why he's even there.

>i decided to force myself to complete an arbitrary checklist in a game with a shitload of content, why am I not having fun
just don't be a completionist then. I completed all the side stories but to actually 100% everything is annoying because you need to do shit like mahjong which is complicated and pool where the AI cheats super hard. just do whatever you think is fun, I don't think they intended for people to 100% everything with every single character.
>>717775738
do you think the game devs really put in achievements and shit because they expect most people to chase them? They put those in so you can get an occasional dopamine hit while playing when you see one pop up, and for mentally ill cheevo hunters (like yourself) that need a list to check off because they can't just enjoy playing the game without the game acknowledging their achievements.

did you just not play the other 4 games? Y2 has plenty of soap opera stuff, Y3 orphanage is major soap opera stuff and lets not even get into Y4's twist.

Oh it was coherent alright, it was plain and clear how fucking retarded it was. Y5 is interesting because they tried to push themes of brotherhood, honor, and family, not just a generic plotline about needing to defeat the omi for reasons.

these are the only themes present in every single game you fucking retard. literally its the only gimmick this series had. Y5 is convoluted mess that shits the bed.

Yes. Starts with Akiyama having no idea what he's even getting roped into. Saejima bumbles around like the retard he is, while Hamazaki pushes the story forward. Then almost everything is solved by Tanimura who has access to the police resources. None of the final bosses come out of nowhere, you get a repeat of Y1 with a police/national security corruption scheme crumbling while various criminal factions are trying to get in on the money.
>>717778373
Dead Souls is a Halloween special and it's a fun parody of the whole horror genre. It doesn't try to take itself seriously. You get stuff you wouldn't see in mainline games like Akiyama's lazy ass actually going on a collections run right as the city is crumbling, or JSDF getting out of Kiryu's way.
