The reason why UT became so successful is because Toby is insanely good at making assets work together, doing character writing, directing and creating good melodies. Not a lot of indie games at the time had a cast of characters that truly resonated with people while also hiding in a ton of surprises. Unlike a lot of indieshit nowadays, whenever he subverted expectations in Undertale, he subverted them into something *good*. The only reason you don't get many "Undertales" nowadays is because he's already making fucking Deltarune and the average tech nerd refuses to learn directing, writing or take art seriously.
