The thing with sites like archive.org is that it's an unprecedented collection of all sorts of things, even seemingly useless and niche ones. Nobody is going to data hoard scans of some random London newspaper that ran from 1877 to 1892, but archive.org has exactly that sort of autism.
I've been able to find extremely niche games on archive.org like an archery game from 1992 that basically doesn't exist anywhere anymore and doesn't even return any results when you google it except some vague reference to the company that made it but went bankrupt in 1993. But then some guy had it kicking around in a box and decided to upload it and now it's preserved.
That to me is the real tragedy of this type of government overreach. It's not losing some Mario ROM, but niche things like that for the sake of posterity.
