Am I playing Saga Frontier wrong? All the human characters feels samey except for Red and the monsters are annoying to play as.

All races share the same basic mechanics outside of certain exceptions like Red or Asellus.
Humans all work in the same way but have some specific differences in terms of how they grow and what they can learn, Rouge and Blue for instance have very high growth in magic related stats, Emilia is a dumb bimbo so her INT growth is really bad which means turning her into a mage will take a lot longer than other characters, Gen is extremely proficient at learning sword techs, Liza's really good at martial arts and so on, every human has access to the same tools potentially but the difference lies in their inherent growth and learning factors.
Monsters are a lot more complex though and are largely for expert players who know what they're doing.
