Pikmin thread
Now that the pikmin have settled, what did we think of it?
What are your hopes for the future of the series?

4 is way too easy and lame. I hope Pikmin 5 is more like 1 or 3.
Anonymous No.717799357 >>717799529 >>717812286
I think 4 was a good direction for the series, felt like a nice compromise between 2's caves and the time management of the other games. Too bad its so easy.
4 would be a good base to work off for the next game. They just have to iron out some of the issues like the stupid op dog and the lock on.

After its settled into my brain, I don't think I quite like it as much as I did on release. I like the caves more than 2, and the dandori challenges are good, but I guess the dog and the auto aim cheapened it a bit. The night mode could've been a bit more too, was very easy. Still a good game though.

>Pikmin 5
Miyamoto's moved onto movies, he's not going to force another pikmin game.

majorly casualized game after the already majorily casualized 3, the bizarre pursuit to make pikmin a massive seller has ruined the series

I enjoyed 4, and it was an amazing celebration to the series on a superficial/aesthetic level with the caves, treasures, returning bosses/enemies, 30-day mode, returning pikmin-types, piklopedia etc., but on a gameplay level it pretty much just wasn't a Pikmin game at all but rather something completely different and more generic wearing the series' skin. If the dog and its' mechanics aren't just a one-game gimmick and instead return in future installments as the new standard then the series is pretty much dead in all but name.

Levels were way too big yet there didn’t seem to be more to do in each world. Pikmin works better in compact spaces where you just focus on priorities instead of running around on the dog.

I wish it wasn't on Unreal Engine.

Fuck Unreal.

Why the fuck do you want the levels to be even bigger? They're already empty enough.

I beat Pikmin2 recently, its a remake of pikmin 1 made in pikmin 2.
Gameplay feels so much better than vanilla pikmin 1.
Louie's quest was fantastic, it genuinely feels like something official which is rare for hacks. Its like a postgame hard mode campaign.

It's okay. I want more difficulty and some form of pressure to progress but I don't think that's ever happening again.
The modern gamer FEARS the time limit.
Anonymous No.717808073
Too streamlined, spoils the sense of surviving a hostile uncaring ecosystem like the first game had. Not mean enough. The dogs are stupid and I hate them.

every pikmin sequel further dilutes what was perfect about the original

The aversion people have to any kind of timer is so annoying to me.
Some of the greatest games of all time have made great use of time pressure but we don't really get game like that anymore because people can't handle it.
Games like pikmin and dead rising are nothing without a time limit. You're never really gonna run out of time in a pikmin game but it adds so much to the atmosphere and tone of the game.

Easily the best in the series, anyone whining about it just wants it to be more tedious like the previous games

Everything is great except Oatchi. Oatchi sucks ass. Unfortunately, he's not ignorable most of the time.

Pikmin 4 sold 3.5 million copies, we are getting a Pikmin 5
Anonymous No.717809000
Oatchi is overhated in comparison to some other retarded mechanics. If auto lock-on, 3 pikmin type limit or Flarlics stay for the next game, I may not buy it.
Anonymous No.717809081
>>717808882
oatchi should have been a species just like the bulborbs but that you could domesticate or combat and kill, pretty much like the wild animals in breath of the wild, it would make more sense, I guess Nintendo devs didn't want you to kill a dog
Anonymous No.717809656
An easy way to nerf Oatchi without destroying his flexibility is to make most of his upgrades equips that couldn't stack. He would still be the best thing for elements like poison, but having to sacrifice other shit for that would keep it from being a damn god.

oatchi in future games (oh believe me he will be in future games) should be like moss.
you only get dog upgrades through gameplay...just like every other pikmin game

It's the best one and most common criticisms of it are equally applicable to at least one of the prior entries as well. I was split between it and 2 in terms of which one's my favorite until I revisited 2 recently. Lift the three type limit (which is already halfway there given you can have more than three while in caves), add some kind of hard mode to the normal campaign (which Olimar's side campaign goes some way toward assuaging), make your crew talk less and it'd be pretty much perfect.

I loved Pikmin 4 but mostly because I played it with my own autistic ruleset.
