How has picrel affected your overall gaming experience over the years?

I'm way more aware of games that I'll never play.

Made me realize that the quality of gaming and the Internet as a whole has fallen off a cliff.

I don't play games anymore.

I can talk about a lot of games here in minutes vs. a forum which may only get one or two replies. On the other hand, a lot of threads will get seven replies before archiving. A mixed bag but I like the speedier discussion.

Gaming? I thought this was the youtuber board?

Not really, games I like are still games I like. The only thing /v/ has done is reminded me how shit the modern internet is, when on topic vidya threads get deleted while literal porn (Not the gacha threads, I mean actual porn) threads stay up.

I feel the same way about the games themselves as I would without /v/
However, it's made me realize that we need to find away to stop India and China from being able to access the internet entirely.

I will never touch gacha games because I see how obsessed those people are with "rare" jpgs of anime girls you could just see right now. I can actually see that being me under the right/wrong circumstances. So thank you, gachafags for being deranged masturbating gamblers so I can learn from you.

Same here, anon. Feels like the magic’s gone-maybe it’s just burnout or maybe games really did lose that soul they used to have. Used to get hyped even for AA jank, now I can’t even finish a 10-hour indie without alt-tabbing five times.

They are obsessed with some tranny "meta" gameplay attached to those characters. I challenge you to find someone spending money just to have the jpg since those people are hoarding all year.

/v/ showed me Demons Souls when it first came out in the west and a shit ton of other games I wouldn't have played on my own, Dragons Dogma, Resident Evil, Undertale, Rimworld, Dwarf Fort, Kenshi to name a few
Also the best times I had in WoW were in /v/ guilds
E3 on /v/ was the best too

/v/ has been great for maintaining a general awareness of what games are out there, but I don't blindly follow recommendations. It's important to trust your personal taste before anything else. Basically, >>717814783.

Yes, and actually mostly for the best. I found out a lot of games that I wouldn't have considered otherwise. Most threads suck, but I mentally filter out most of the obvious ragebait-y offtopic ones and just go for the ones where people actually discuss vidya, or more genuine meta like this one.
There were many good times, and it still does happen nowadays, I regret nothing about finding out about 4chan or /v/. Not like I was going to stay for any other form of modern social media.

It's not just games either.
The "stop liking what I don't like" is possibly the most common sentiment and the strongest motivating force ever, except people aren't pretending otherwise here.

unironically 4chan has been a better learning experience than anything at school or my parents
>got good vidya and art film recs from /v/, /vr/, /tv/
>learned how lifting actually works on /fit/
>learned about free software from /g/
>learned esoteric wisdom from /x/
>made a couple thousand dollars thank to /biz/
>made some friends from /soc/ and /v/, somehow these people stuck around way more than those i met irl
>even /pol/ helped me learn about philosophy
those who have not been here back in like 2012 don't know what they missed. there's always good places to learn though.

>>even /pol/ helped me learn about philosophy
Those rare /pol/ threads that actually delve into political theory and philosophy instead of [current year] politics are actually interesting.

I might need to visit these two.
But yes, never underestimate how good 4chan actually is, especially compared to the rest of the internet. Are you really sure you would like to spend your precious time on Xitter instead? Or god forbid, R*ddit in subs that aren't just info dumps?

4chan is in that middle ground sweetspot
>Not mainstream enough to have 24/7 moderation and AI tools for every little discussion ever
>Not too obscure that threads usually move at a decent pace, unlike alt-chans
I do like some of the alt-chans BUT they move too slow sometimes and the discussion isn't *that* much better. So really, you are getting the same ratio of shitpost to genuinely good discussion, just at a slower rate.

Eh, most boards honestly don't give out good info due to contrarianism.
Also /soc/ is literally one of the worst boards on this site.
Anonymous No.717823323
>>717822072
Yeah I know what you mean. Altchans do have a lot of benefits over 4chan, but the slow activity kills it. And much like anything else that requires social interaction, the community (and its presence in the first place) determines how the experience goes. 4+4 used to be active enough actually in its first years(long before the split), but now not really, I remember following some generals there.

Depends on what the mods are doing. Most of the time? Yeah, it's pretty shit. When you got fun threads like "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!", those are truly great... until the janny finishes his hotpocket to delete the thread and let other, non-vidya threads stay up.

/v/'s only saving grace is the fact that it's a hobbyist board, so even at its worst you will get people who just want to talk about the hobby.
