Yeah its zelda, pretty much invented the action adventure genre
PStar is graphically impressive and the Master System was amazing but it was just a more fancy looking Dragon Quest
Similarly DQ3 is just where DQ1 wanted to be from the start but couldnt
And metroid was a mess, good idea but crippled execution on the NES

Ummm probably none of these, it's mr gimmick with its reactive enemy AI and projectile physics. And for the snes it's umihara kawase, which is just absolute sorcery.

Phantasy Star is really good for an 8 bit rpg. The dungeon crawler aspect of dungeons is well made and I would consider it the first modern jrpg from a story perspective. It was released two days after Final Fantasy and makes it look like a pile of shit. Plus one of the party members is a cute cat.

OP asked what the most impressive was, not the best selling. DQ4 is more a technological feat than DQ3 as well, pretty much pushed the absolute limits of what the console was capable of.
There is only 'obtuse' points in the game, the hungry Moblin and the fake walls in the second quest and you'll stumble upon the solution to the first one eventually if you did what every other kid back then did with games, experimented with everything available to you.

I don't think it's funny. There are many groundbreaking and interesting games today which go completely unnoticed as well. The past can teach us to better appreciate the future.

It was the highest selling game in the series and regarded as a classic until some revisionist Youtubers started complaining about "no map".

Metroid's design wasn't limited by the NES. metroid nerfed it's complexity and made it seem like a simple early 80s platformer while the game engine was using memory saving map generating tech to make a maze hundreds of screeens long.

NTA but classics should be viewed more critically than new games. It's not interesting to discuss games I already discussed to death over 20 years ago with some retarded third world failed normalfag boomer who's trying to make up for lost time. If you can't bring anything new to the table then your opinion isn't valuable. Objectively none of the games in OP are particularly great.

How am I complain about it being confusing when I specifically said a map wouldn't improve it?
It doesn't need fucking directions. It's just bad.

You're the one ditching about copy pasted rooms which served two functions:
1) To save memory
2) To disorient the player
You can't criticize the game because you don't understand it.

Having a reason you made the level design bad doesn't suddenly make it good.
If you've made a part of your game suck on purpose for effect, that part still sucks.
You're just saying Metroid has the retro version of the "lose all your powers and slow walk" bullshit that was a design fad for a while.
