The entire point is that the fire can't last forever, and the dark is not the end, but also that the fire won't be gone forever (because it materialised randomly from nothingness one day in the DS1 lore, so it could do so again)
If there is an age of dark, it's very possible that another age of fire will usurp it at some point in the future, but to try and perpetuate the current age of fire and to never let it end will just cause it to degrade

death and rebirth are natural things, and much like the seasons, sometimes you just need to let nature take it's course; if we ever tried to make earth have a perpetual summer then we would completely fuck up the ecosystem of the planet, that's what the perpetual age of fire is like for the DS1 world
