It's not about hate like those dumbasses insist, it's simply about conviction. Voldemort and his cronies can use it willy nilly since they are psychopaths with zero regards for life, but with Snape it was more of a mercy killing. He knew Dumbledore was already dying, and could not jeopardize their plans about Harry. Also stepping in to take Draco's place to protect his innocence as a student of Hogwarts and prevent him from becoming a criminal dark wizard is very thematic. Snape was the only character both rational and empathetic enough to pull off such a feat.

If spells take years to learn they just should have made it incredibly difficult to cast. Like, killing a person, instantly, with no physical harm should be almost impossible or be incredibly draining on the caster.

Avada Kedavra is considered an Unforgiveable Curse because there is no usage to it other than murder.
To use the spell you need a lot of magical power and very high intent to wish death upon someone. In the 4th book Moody (Barty Crouch Jr.) invites the entire classroom to draw their wands and use the curse against him and he says he doubts he'll get so much as a nosebleed, because they're weak and they're children who won't have murderous intent.

I think it's in their best interest that not a single Mage dies, and thus makes sense to ban the 1 killing spell that exists. The game Hogwarts Legacy is actually very little about Hogwarts, which is its biggest flaw. Most of the game is exploring a copypasted countryside, looking for high-stat clothes.

In Half Blood Prince Harry tries to fight Snape, and Snape just toys with him. He then says something like, "You'll never be able to hit me until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed."
Snape could actually read Harry's mind to predict his next attack and counter it.

In a high level duel you could imagine both wizards trying to conceal their next move and read their opponent's. Using feints and trying to slip past the other's guard with a spell too unexpected for the other guy to trivially block.
When Voldemort and Dumbledore fight neither of them use basic attack spells. They just keep throwing weird shit at each other hoping the other one won't be able to see it coming and think of a counter to it in time.

I think it's just that what the book series does exceptionally well is the slice of life part in a (magic) school setting, which is the strongest in the earlier books for obvious reasons. As the plot thickens and we get more and more drama and action parts which Rowling sucks at the books naturally get worse.

It's similar to a Patronus. You have to power a Patronus with a happy memory and if you don't get in the right state of mind the spell fails or is weakened.
To Abra Kadabra you have to power it with murderous intent.
To Crucio you have to power it with a desire to cause pain.

Naturally, evil psychopaths are better at casting these spells.
Harry was able to Crucio Bellatrix for a short period using "Righteous Anger", but it wasn't very effective. To use it properly you have to really enjoy it.

This is why most people don't Abra Kadabra in a fight. It takes too much time to control your emotions and you can't risk your spell fizzling.
There were a few occasions in the books where Harry tries to use a Patronus, but it takes him a few tries because his life is so miserable. If his opponent was a wizard firing spells at him instead of a dumb dementor he would have been killed by those screw ups.
It's probably one of the reasons Voldemort was so powerful. He's so psychotic he can cast it consistently.

Not at all, I did find that most of the movies (particularly 4 and 6) cut out A LOT of stuff from the books, and the general tone shifted towards realism, killing some of the magic when it comes to aesthetics, direction and so on, and I also disliked the way in which spells were portrayed (wands felt almost like guns, the good guys transform into white smoke and the bad ones into black smoke, etc) and I would have liked a more complete and proper adaptation but I don't trust them at all. Plus, the casting choices so far feel somewhat off, for the most part, and I'm not only talking about Snape (although that's the one that stands out the most).
