The "Do everything" handheld controller is a pipe dream.
If you want a do-everything controller, then you're better off with an input bank, something affixed somewhat securely to a base or desk, like a keyboard or a flightstick, since that means it can be a bit more multifunctional, but still ergonomic.
The current set of controllers, even with better build quality, are a complete meme and have essentially ruined most 3D genres. Gone are the days of trying to make the fun input scheme for the jump man from scratch for the single analog stick controller, now developers are hamstringing themselves by backporting superior mouse and keyboard controls onto much more limited handheld controllers.
The logical progression of handheld controllers was always VR controllers, but that was actively undermined by Microsoft APIs and 360 oriented input schemes that made support much more difficult than it needed to be.
