Dont know about the anime, but the first half of the manga sucks ass. Its enormously overrated by gooners and neophytes that havent read 10+ manga. The darkness devil panel is really cool, but everything else ranges from meh to forgettable. The plot doesnt make sense and the book doesnt take itself seriously enough to care. The humor is all standard, boiler plate "waaaaaah, boobies xD" shounen humor that anyone who truly enjoys the medium has already seen a million times, but zoomers that dont read see that shit on a tiktok edit and somehow the series becomes a cultural touchstone. I honestly do not dislike it. I didnt like it nearly enough to pick it back up when it started again, but there are definitely manga that have wasted my time worse than chainsaw man. For me, its just the picture of overrated. It doesnt really iterate creatively on its genre, but it happened to be at the right place at the right time to become a flagship series for a new generation. Everything it accomplishes is done better elsewhere.
