If I want to play Oblivion, should I play the Original version or should I play the Remaster?

As with everything, play the original first. It's still available, and will (usually) run on modern hardware. The art style is noticeably different between the two, that I say that just having higher fidelity that the remake has isn't a great improvement.

If you want to play with a controller and are a retard, just get the remaster (suming you have a 4080/5080 or above) to brute force it to 1080p/60fps
Otherwise if you don't mind reading some basic black bitch guide on how to set it up for 4k/120+fps and set up for controller (if you want to use it)m just play the original since it has better mods overall and better balance

Depends on your PC. If you have a monster of a gaming PC ($3000-$5000), get the remake. If your PC is middling ($500-$1500) then get the original.

Original with vanilla+ mods, at most. Don't fall for the UE5 mess that is the demaster. As a general rule take into account that 95% of remasters and remakes out there are actually worse than the original and the only reason you get them over straight ports is because they want to take money out of easily influenced morons.

Short version> Bethesda hired a bunch of pajeets who don't understand stylistic choices made, and so changed practically all of them.

Long version? It has more more polygons and higher resolution textures but looks uglier overall because one was intentionally trying to invoke a feeling of a fantastical world you would want to go on an adventure in. The other uses basic UE4 (5?) engine assets to give it a strange attempt at realism when that was never the intent originally. Also there's a orange-ish piss filter over everything, so the vibrant greens and blues of the original are effectively gone.

It's still the same terrible Oblivion but with awful modern piss filter graphics running on unstable Unreal 5 engine.
I'd rather play the original with mods. Skyrim and Morrowind modded are much better games than the remaster, so why even play Oblivion unless it's the original with the dreamlike graphics?

I've tried playing Bethesda games but I just don't see the appeal.

What's cool about skyrim? Are we really supposed to basedjack over le dragons (the most standard fantasy monster)? Oblivion has a cool setting but like all Shitthesda games you just keep killing the same enemies over and over again, most of which have worthless loot. Fallout 4 has a big modding potential and probably the best vanilla gameplay but the UI and story are disgustingly bad. I've tried forcing myself to finish fallout 3 but the muttmerican setting is boring af and I dont see how anyone who isn't an amerimutt could like that game. Fallout New Vegas was the only "Bethesda" game I liked and it's not made by Bethesda, it just uses the f3 engine. And from what I've seen Oblivion Remastered doesn't have any cool mods, it's mostly just shaders or rebalance stuff.

How is it possible that there are so few good open world games, the only one I can think of rn is fnv

If you're insistent on using a controller, Remaster.
If you're fine using kb+m, Original. Also there's and insane amount of graphical and gameplay overahauls for the original anyway. so it's only the controller aspect that I can really say the remaster is better for.

Can only speak for myself but I still enjoy Fallout because there is nothing else like it, especially the setting. Elder Scrolls feels completely generic to me but when it comes to the fantasy setting there are some giga autists that just love this shit no matter what.

Remaster is the exact same game but can run on modern PCs without hacky mods and has gorgeous graphics, it's not incredibly optimised though so you need a powerful PC

Note there's a FF7 Remake, and they're remaking FF9 and FF Tactics, but not FF8. That should clue you in that you don't mess with perfection.

Vanilla with a good modlist. But it's pretty much the weakest Elder Scrolls with very few redeeming qualities (guild progression is the only one that comes to mind, really).

I've beaten both and the Remaster has amazing graphics, some of the best graphics currently out. Remaster looks gorgeous on my 4090.

Are there any OBR mods that make the armor of boots less cartoonishly oversized? Original Oblivion didn't have that problem.

Plus it's a remake, not a remaster, so it actually touches on things like making cities bigger according to their original concept art or reworking all dungeons so they're not samey copypasted caves and imperial forts but actually have character and resemble Skyrim's dungeon design more. And would you look at that, it didn't forget to keep the COLOR instead of making everything brown and muddy.

I like both, but just for the sake of convenience and laziness I'd stick with remaster.
