EPD Tokyo made the best 3D Mario yet. Nintendo asked them to focus on Donkey Kong next. They've made another GOTY, they've improved Odyssey on every level.
Now comes the hardest question. How do they move forward? Is 3D Mario the next plan? Will any other franchise get the same treatment? I don't get how the new 3D Mario (if so) is gonna top this.

Odyssey sucked by comparison to the other 3d games. Most of the levels were forgettable and the possession mechanic was super gimmicky.
Not to mention I never felt the urge to replay it after beating it. 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, all games I want to play when I think about them. Odyssey? Nothing.
Didn't play DKB, looks really ugly and I hate how they made DK look and act. Switch 2's got nothing that appeals to me at the moment.

I can't think on N reusing the formula with another of their IPs, they aren either too serious (Metroid, F-Zero) or belong to a different genre (zelda, starfox).
If they want to reuse the oddysey fornula they'll just make a sequel.

Well if their shtick is "put collectathon formula on steroids but hide them more densely, and build interesting game mechanics around it that work" then I guess find another formula that works with it and build it around another IP.

Maybe a Wario game could be good, as they're generally treasure hunters anyway, or they could just take one of the lesser known characters and give them a go. Maybe a sci-fi game with Captain Falcon but without the racing focus., or if they want to continue the "loli sells" trend have an Ashley game where she flies around on her broomstick or something and give it an Addams Family sense of dark humor.

DK is fucking boring so far. Canyon level looks to be more of the same slop. Tendies are the biggest cultists known to man.

A Bowser game is my obvious answer or a sequel to DK Bananza with a new spin on the destruction engine but I'd love to see if maybe they use their talent and past experience to perhaps create a new IP for Nintendo.

Bowser game would just be DK again though. His segment in Odyssey basically formed the entirety of Bananza.

Wario would be the safest bet as its treasure hunting format would work with what they do. I have faith they'd translate Land's engine to 3D well.

That or give a different character a chance to be their own thing. Nintendo have plenty.

You could always mess around with his Fire breathing either as a mechanic for combat, puzzles or maybe even platforming if want to do something like using it for extra height or traversal. Though I also don't mind the idea of other characters getting their own spotlight games such Yoshi getting a 3D game like thread suggested. A fun idea I saw an artist do was since Birdo and Shy guy's associate with him then make King Wart the bad guy for a Yoshi game, I'd like the idea just to see Tryclyde finally come back in some form.

These devs make excellent 3D games, so I'm not saying they should stop making them.
But Bananza really convinced me that they'd make an incredible 2D DK game.

Bananza's turf surfing. Chunk throwing. Chunk jumping. Chunk swinging. And climbing. Alongside the core physics and movement. Are all extremely good for a 2D game, even if they were designed for a 3D game.
I want to play an entire game like that.

I could see the game perhaps either having Bowser invade other Kingdoms perhaps instead of a grand star or equivalent you kidnap that regions princess but they'd probably do the ol new villain usurps Bowsers spotlight so he has to showcase why he's the classic bad guy who survives Mario while most of the other villains don't love longer than a game or 2 against the red and or green plumber pair of pizanno's.

Probably not but it'd be nice since always good to see neglected characters get a time to shine after a decades long absence. I think they should lean into the Dream lord angle to give him a unique hook that he's kinda missing compared to other Nintendo villains. Speaking of was a massive missed opportunity that he wasn't the secret boss in Mario and Luigi Dream Team.
