Left is a burger that looks amazing, tasty and delivered to you on a silver platter ready to eat.
Right is a bunch of ingredients that is just as amazing and tasty as the left one but you need to grill the meat and put it all together yourself.

BOTW is often looked down by some people because they don't want a game that's really good but you have to put in effort yourself, they want a game that's really good but you don't have to put in any effort at all.
This doesn't make ER any less good than BOTW, they just simply have different mental requirements prior to launching the game.

BOTW has like 5 bosses, 4 of them being puzzleshit for literal toddlers

In Zelda you have to actually dodge and avoid intersecting with the enemies weapons. In rollslop, positioning is too complicated for their playerbase, so they have to introduce immunity frames so combat only has 1 dimension, timing. The average rollslop player immediately drinks their dumb healing potions while next to an enemy after getting hit, then get surprised when the enemy decides to continue attacking them while they're drinking. Nintentoddlers have a higher IQ than rollslop players.

Elden Ring has its problems too, but overall, it's a well-designed game. Zelda BOTW/TOTK are poorly designed games.
Zelda BOTW/TOTK need to put the player in shitty cycles where they keep renewing their weapons that break every 30 seconds, or collecting Kokiri Seeds (otherwise people wouldn't explore the world because there are no intrinsic rewards in it), and these things become the core of the gameplay, forced elements that wouldn't need to exist if the game were any good.

Elden Ring doesn't need to create such absurd restrictions. Weapons simply last the entire time. You end up exploring the world because you want to find the next area and the next challenges. The game simply works better.

Having meaningful items found in exploration is probably the biggest reason why Elden Ring is a vastly better game to me. The exploration in BotW falls flat because there's not really any incentives to reward you with something cool.

Final Fantasy 16 had the same issue with mediocre exploration rewards but that wasn't a true open world game where the problem becomes more pronounced like in BotW.

Elden ring is extremely boring because the ONLY thing to do is fight enemies, ans they're all approached and defeated in the same way. The Zelda games have an immense variety of content between the various shrine puzzles, combat, town and sidequests, dungeons, minigames, koroks, collectables, etc. And TotK adds on building, caves/well systems, and depths exploration.

Yeah, you can still find lackluster rewards in Elden Ring but finding new permanent items always feels better and when you go off the beaten path to find treasure chests it's more exciting when it could be a build defining item in there as opposed to something that ultimately doesn't matter. i was playing bloodstained recently i was thinking that elden ring world have been great with something similar to the weapon fusion from that game, where you find shitty sword and you keep combine them until you reach an apex weapon, it would have made finding those rewards much rewarding because you can fuse them to have something even more op, and also they should have made the end game about level 200ish, because once you reach level 90 the progression stops on it rails.

I've always been fond of the Vagrant Story system where weapons have both the hilt and blade and you can combine different ones to make new weapons in the same way. It really does make getting new weapons exciting even if you're not going to use them because you might be able to combine it to make something you can use. It'd be cool if Elden Ring had something similar even if it'd obviously devolve into everyone using guides to make the best items after the first week.

Elden RIng has a lot of upgrades of meaning in comparison because it held onto more of the dungeon crawler formula from previous games compared to BotW which really tossed that formula to the wayside, Ironically an old ass game made for the Ngage like Xanadu Next does the exploration a lot better than both games, but that takes clear inspiration from the classic Ys games which took inspiration from classic Zelda.

Open World is a fucking meme for this genre, hopefully it doesn't ruin Nioh 3 as well.
