Now we pay to save AND store our games.

It wasn't so bad with the PS2, Except when you had like 6 different memory cards and had to go through all of them to find your save file. PS1 memory cards were total shit, though. One Sim City 2000 save was like 90% of my card.

it was a simpler time when you could take the memory card to a friends place to continue games together. but of course a zoomie can't relate to having friends.

I wonder how much better games would have been if save storage was a solved matter right from the beginning like it is today.

It really feels like most games were designed with the simplest progression in mind just because all they could save was a few bits for progression.

I've still got some old memory cards with my PS1 in the attic that belonged to old friends. It was kinda common to forget cards or games etc at a friends house. I've still got a copy of Secret of Mana that we rented from Blockbuster for the SNES, we moved home and just didn't take it back kek

Zeroes are an exemption since the prevention is quite simple: if the last digits are the same, add 1. So if you get XX299, it adds one and your post ID becomes XX300.

I had one of these that (i think) came with the console and i never even needed to buy a second one.
Just delete the savegames of shit you've already beat.
Tekken 5 was the only one where i kept the savegame permanently because of the character unlocks.

Absolute poorfag so I had to replay games over and over from the start to make any progress.
Also left the game running overnight or when I went to school.
Finally got a second hand one when parents realized it's cheaper than the electricity bill.

I had a copy of Donkey Kong Country 2 for the gba from some black market that didn't save so i had to play through the entire thing in one sitting and without getting a single gameover, since that kicks you back to the title screen. Theres a different kind of panic when you're 6 hours in and you don't have any replacement batteries left.

It legitimately didn't bother me to replay games endlessly.
I'm the kind of absolute retard who grinded for a charizard before the first gym.
Now I'm a savescumming autist, I WILL alt+f4 and manually replace my savefile if I fucked up or didn't like the RNG.
Yes I'm a complete idiot.

I took as many part time jobs as time could afford so I could pay for my own tuition, now I'm a senior engineer. I haven't seen my mom in 15 years and I don't know where she even lives now, but I see my dad regularly now that he's not fucked by parental custody and we can see eachother whenever we want.
