People stopped caring about religion and having a relationship with God and instead began worshipping literally anything else possible in the physical world as an Idol. Be it a celebrity, or a concept like money, or their own intellect, believing they are smart than they truly are and generally just trying to find and create meaning in things that don't actually bring them anything or help them in any way whatsoever and just further causes them to be miserable.
They weren't "saved" by a video game. They were temporarily distracted from whatever caused them issues in life and are now clinging to that moment in life and game in itself as a thing that they idolize and waste time praising and worshipping over and over again for something that has not actually given them any form of long term success, change or improvement, just temporary relief via distraction from whatever they went through at that point in time and instead of being able to see it for the passing moment that it was, they obsess over it for as long as possible and further trying to milk it try by making videos like that to gain money from it, further leading to worship of other form of concepts like I just said, in this case, being money and greed.
This will only continue to get worse and worse to the point they reach such a rock bottom place in life that they're only thing left to even consider is either straight up suicide or actually praying to God to save them from the cesspit they are in because a mere physical and limited concept such as a video game is not actually going to "help" them anymore now when their lives are in complete fucking shambles and not even temporary good feels from consuming fictional stories is going to be able to turn their mind and feelings around back towards hope for themselves and their future.
