>The reality is that learning japanese for games is overrated. There is no new peak gaming experience untranslated.
It's never been more pointless to learn for playing games than it is now.
OCR and machine translations now are as good as a mediocre person doing it if you are using the latest up to date stuff.
Companies are already shifting over to using LLMs for official translations and most people do not notice unless a bunch of seething artists start screeching over losing their jobs. The same artists will also post shit translations and say they are machine translated to try to scare normies from using them, or they will compare with google translate which is also shit in comparison. You can check the accuracy yourself now by translating direct in chatgpt.
I've had jap VNs sitting around for over a decade I could never get a decent translation out of with older tools and now I can play them easily.

They are good enough for most people right now if you aren't just looking for nitpicks to seethe over (most overestimate the accuracy of fan-translation). Within 5 years they will be better than 99% of translators and will be used by all the companies anyway.
If you run them yourself you can also tweak the prompts to remove censorship or control how literal you want them to be and you aren't limited to Japanese you can just as easily use any other language.
