Well, it's a persona game. The target audience in JP is actual teenagers, whereas in the USA it's mostly 30-year-old weebs like me who don't care who a game is intended for as long as it's fun. But like, the high school drama is the least interesting part of the games to me, and I think a lot of the VN sections could have been cut entirely.
