Thoughts on 8bitdo controllers?
I'm tempted to buy their new picrel controller to play old arcade games but I'm afraid it's gonna be just a shitty chinkshit "here's your controller, bro"-tier controller.

you didn't beat - hell, you didn't even actually PLAY - the game

love mine because "it just werkz". plus i was sony babby since i was a kid so i've grown accustomed to symmetrical sticks and the 8bitdo controllers are the only ones that have a semblance of quality

only thing i dont like about it is that i have to hook it up to the PC if i want to remap any of the buttons/backpaddles

No thoughts, any interest I had in them instantly vanished once I found out I could just get a cheap dongle (their own IIRC?) to play with the Dualsense on Switch, the only platform where that controller didn't natively work on.
On all other platforms I also use Dualsense, don't think any explanation is needed here. Price would be the one and only consideration to get an alternative instead.

Annoys me to no end how you can't turn on the Switch/2 remotely from any 3rd party controller though.

I have a older model, the 1 I think without the holders. It held up really well. ordered the pro 3 nes ver because of the rubber lines on the dpad.

Pro 3 looks god-tier. First controller I'd consider buying since Steam Controller.

After many months of hesitation I pulled trigger on 2C and it's okay, that's all I have to say about it so far.

I have a wired SN30 which is basically this but without the handles. It works just fine other than the dpad being too mushy for my liking. Love the trigger and shoulder placements but that's probably different on this model.

How is the build quality compared to 1st party console controllers?
Anonymous No.717851418 [Report] >>717851729
>>717851207
It's honestly no different
I would even wager 1st party controllers are more or less made by the same factories
This is more of an indictment of 1st party products

shill thread

do not buy 8bitdo
these controllers suck ass
dropping inputs when holding down triggers
diagonal issues on d-pad
uncomfortable d-pad
d-pad rubs the casing

couldn't refund it and have basically never used it again until the one time I had to pull a "here's your controller bro" on my friend for lack of better options

I bought a firstparty xbox controller and despite having an inferior layout for the dpad it was superior in every other way

>>717851418
>It's honestly no different
not at all
plastic doesn't feel as good compared to most classic consoles i own
more translucent cheap looking, no topcoat, buttons are loud as fuck and lightweight

>>717850569
I have the one without handles too, all the issues above

yeah while 360 bumpers felt cheap, i find them more responsive than their new counterpart

also my A button got a bit sticky but that is most likely a tardgrip problem on my end

why are controllers so fucking heavy now? is it the battery and rumble? i feel like i'm getting rsi from holding these beasts for hours
Anonymous No.717854171 [Report]
>>717854038
It's mostly the rumble. If you don't care for it, it's usually pretty simple to remove the motors. Sony controllers require desoldering two wires, most others you simply unplug them.

Yeah, try a wired controller or one with removable batteries that you can still plug in and use.

buy a console controller like a normal person instead of cheap chinkshit
Anonymous No.717855241 [Report]
I always wanted to get one of the sn30 pro controllers they came out with its like a snes controller with analog sticks. Been on xbox for like 15 years they feel great and all but the analog sticks go out within a year. Finally got some cash for the 8bitdo ultimate v1. So far happy with it and will not get drift. The cons are it feels smaller and the sticks feel like they kinda scratch the ends of the gates. They came out with a new version but im not dishing out like 70 bucks for a version that hasent been out that long. I see it holding up for years even tho most the retards that break there controllers have fucktard offspring that throw the controllers. Anyways good buy would get another one just stay away from the keyboards and arcade sticks its shit other ppl do way more better. 200 bucks for a fucken giga corp like Microsoft to give you hall effect joysticks is insane shit the dream cast had em back in the day in there controllers.

I'm mostly interested on the dpad. I have an 8bitdo ultimate and while it's overall good enough the dpad tends to catch diagonals so playing either fighters or platformers with the usual "down+jump to fall down of platforms" mechanic can be a nuisance.

I think flydigi and gamesir makes better controllers than 8bitdo, they seem to have less problems over time too.

I regularly use a Pro 2. Mine was before they made them with hall effect sticks and I don't have drift yet. D pad is fine in my experience, though I don't play many fighting games and the like, so your mileage may vary. It's a solid controller for $50 and now steam supports remapping the back buttons when set to d input mode
Anonymous No.717856434 [Report]
Picrel is legitimately the best third-party controller I've ever owned. Hall effect sticks and triggers, four programmable back buttons, feels great in the hands.

My only real gripes are the asymmetrical stick placement and that the back buttons are a little too easy to press by mistake.

I used the N64 mod kit on my childhood controller. It gets recognized as an NSO controller on the Switch and it's worked really well for emulation. Only thing I haven't tested is the rumble. I went down the N64 stick rabbithole and according to other autists, the 8bitdo stick is the next best thing after a good condition oem stick. It's not 100% in performance, but it's very close and only some speedrunning tranny would be able to tell the difference
Anonymous No.717856768 [Report]
Button movement is better than stick movement.
Double sticks is dumb, imprecise, and monopolizes your thumb.

That difference is very obvious in games that autocenter your view- so Star Fox and Duke Nukem 64.

Gotta try them out. I've only played Mario 64 and a little bit of Ocarina of Time, though to be fair, it's been many years since I used an oem stick. I think two of mine still function well

The ultimate 2 wireless has a good dpad, I played nine sols with it. There's enough tension on the membrane that or whatever it is they're using that you don't get unwanted diagonals.

Paid and unpaid shilling
Potential exposure to new options for people unsatisfied with what they have, or looking for something specific that they don't know exists (partly circles back to shilling)
Rarely some actually useful info buried between the "I love this controller" "I hate that controller" posts
Anonymous No.717860889 [Report]
I dunno, I'm looking forward to my pro3 arriving soon. I recently tried doing some Super Metroid on my PS5 controller, and it can't recognize a shine spark input on the d-pad to save its life, and I absolutely refuse to play it with the sticks.

Watched a review and the guy said it was better than the 2 but had loud buttons, which I'm fine with since I like my mechanical keyboard's clack
