I am braced for Metroid Prime 4 to be only an "ok" game.
I think it'll be pretty good no matter what, it's a big budget Nintendo game that's been cooking for years, but it's possible it'll be on the casual side, given what Prime 3 was, and it's possible it won't quite be up to the standard set by the Prime games when Retro Studios was in it's ... prime.
I am setting my expectations low. I feel like that's the safe move given the state of the industry right now.

However.
It is also possible that the game could be the best entry in the series. Blowing everyone away in totally unexpected ways.
Wishing them well, surely it's close to release and I'm excited to see the next entry in my favorite series

I fully expect it to be worth the wait. They need to fire their marketing team.

I'm braced for Prime 4 being exactly like the previous ones but not quite as substantial as Prime 1 or 2, and having some sort of slightly generic "Open World" esque feature that makes it feel less unique in the long run.
And I'm excited for that.
I am NOT braced for everyone talking about it as if it's a huge failure and both gamers and journalists starting to complain that Prime 1 was never that good, and it's time for Metroid to stop being a Metroid game or whatever, and then Nintendo proceeding to make Breath of the Metroid next, which everyone loves, but I don't even understand why they love it because everything is just not really Metroid at all.

In that sense I'm ready for Metroid Prime 4 warts and all, but I'm not ready for Metroid Prime 5. I think we're in for a real schism.

It’s not really a marketing fuck up. The game just hasn’t been finished, and they couldn’t really show the interesting parts of the game until closer to release. Nintendo always holds back on marketing if they can, and keeps a games gimmick close to the cheat. This just has had a fucked dev cycle. I think it'll be better than Dread but worse than the prime trilogy, maybe better than 3. I don't think we'll ever reach metroid's golden age (2002-2009) again and "better than prime 3" is the best we can hope for, and I only think that because Tanabe seems to have Retro under a tighter leash now vs back with prime 3 when the halo fanboy retards within the company gave us that intro/Norion segment.

at this point I'd rather just a remaster of echoes and corruption on the switch 1 / 2.
Maybe 4 won't be bad, but I'm not expecting it to be great and honestly I'm not "hyped" at all for it.

That said, I did like Dread a lot and had fun playing it, just can't see myself ever replaying it.

Been a long time 2d Metroid fan, but never owned a GameCube and missed all the Prime series games. Played the Remake 2 years ago and absolutely loved it, even with objectively dated gameplay. If MP 4 is just more of the same but with more exploration/puzzles and cool combat mechanics, then I'll be happy. Those were the best parts of Prime and that's what the game should focus on. Fuck, "modern standards." I don't want Metroid to be some shitty roll/parry slop Souls like or generic FPS. Celebrate what makes the game unique. Maybe that'll turn people away idk, but I'd rather it be good and safe then trying to revolutionize the formula and failing miserably.

It's not designed around aiming, it's designed around lock on. This is obvious by the fact they are not making mouse controls or motion controls mandatory. Aiming is not even going to be a factor in Beyond. But it really is the movement mechanics that are the real travesty. Again, these are founded upon lock on. Lock on is the glaring issue and it could have been easily omitted while losing none of the real identity of Prime. Instead you are stuck with an antiquated solution from a console that only had one functional stick from an era before twin stick console shooters dominated the market.
