This kind of thing just isn't true. Linux games barely run, and when they don't you need to know programing to make them work again, and even then its just barely.

People shit on windows but the reality is all those tasks in the background are keeping your computer fast and snappy. Go on and try it yourself. They will sit around screeching all day about muh bloat and how they free'd up their every thing, but they have no games and the performance is only the same when you're lucky, and its usually worse 99% of the time.
Windows is the GOAT for a reason.

How are you guys doing on Linux these days? Any games you miss because they won't work for some reason?

I used to use Linux a lot for many years, and at the time Proton wasn't really a thing so the situation was more like "I go on winedb and manually follow the user submitted instructions for my game if it's (hopefully) submitted to the winedb." Nowadays I'm on a mac and the wine situation is mostly the same as it was on Linux in those days, but obviously everyone's been saying Proton is a lot better now.

Also windows is so bloated by Microsoft's own admission that Microsoft is reworking how shit is handled because it eats into the performance and battery life of handhelds
That's not snappy you fucking neanderthal, that's choking it and the only reason you don't feel it on a desktop is because it has enough power to power through the bloat

Cry about it more. Again. Try it yourself. You have nothing to lose. Go ahead and give it a whirl. I've nothing to prove. The reality is if Linux was superior the market would immediately reflect that. Especially after several decades. It's shit. It's simply shit. That's all there is to it an everyone knows it. I somewhat agree with this sentiment, but there is another aspect to it where simply having to install an OS yourself is already a huge roadblock to most PC users who by majority have a sort of learned helplessness.

Everything has worked for me but I don't play competitive games
I kept windows installed just in case
its been 4 years and I haven't logged on to it a single time
Ultimately though this question is so varied depending on who you are and some games involve waiting a little bit for proton patches to release. For example, I couldn't play Monster Hunter Wilds immediately. It didn't take long to get fixed but that could be disappointing for some people in some circumstances.
However, even if I did jump over to windows whenever something like that happened, I would have only had to do so like once or twice, only for a brief period of time, in the last 4 years.
Your best bet to understand if it'll work out for you though is to just look up the games you play on https://protondb.com/

Do note however, some protondb entries are just kinda out of date if your game is more obscure
Proton improved at such a rapid rate, some games will be a lower rating because of reviews from like 1-2 years ago, even though it just werks now
Its mostly a good way to figure out what works though

you cant play modern release on linux and no im not only talking about EAC or other kernel-level bullshit, performance is just worse across the board in addition to having to troubleshoot things that should unironically just work, denying this is arguing in bad faith/retardation of "heh just dont play *those* games" when *those* games are over 50% of new releases

im no microkek lover and have used linux for well over 2 decades, and would love to just abandon windows, its absolutely embarrassing how linux hasnt taken more marketshare despite the absurd pajeetism that is windows 10/11
like amd, every single linux distro loves to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

go on /g/ right now and ask "hey what distro should i use for gaming and how do i set it up" the response will 100% be "lmao gaymer faggot", they dont give a shit about the hobby and likely never will

Exactly.
Windows is chasing every aids trend it can see, copying the worst of OSX, the worst of android, coming up with some shit ideas on it's own...
While linux is just a regular ass OS that don't get in your way every 10 seconds.

Win7 was perfect, but shareholders demanded to kill it to make (buzzword crap) instead.

God I wish W11 was good, I've had it on my work laptop for maybe 8 months and it's fucking awful. Constant bugs logging in, fingerprint scanner literally never works, constant desktop crashes, drains my laptop battery even in sleep mode because Windows still has that same fucking sleep mode bug they've been trying to fix for like a decade now, the touch screen just randomly stops working and I have to reboot it if I want to use it again, etc. etc.
Genuinely worse than launch W8, which was the worst I thought an OS could get at the time.
As soon as my desktop W10 install can no longer launch Steam I'm done with Windows entirely.

AMD works decently with AI on linux specifically because of ROCM
Its still not ideal but you can do it nonetheless
I run ComfyUI, Koboldccp, Chatterbox-tts, and it works decently but definitely slower than nvidia. I've heard AMD is useless for AI on windows though.

I used to miss the AAA multiplayer shooters. But after reading what kernel level anticheat programs actually do, how much shit sticks around when you remove the game, how effective it actually is, and that they just aren't worth it, Im ready to tell the studios and publishers that release those games to go fuck themselves. I have played through much of my backlog that I've realized years ago that I don't need them. And theres cs and games with private servers that I can play to scratch that itch.

Linus already has Greg to replace him, but the Linux kernel is becoming more and more unmaintainable by the year, it will probably just get split off into multiple forks at some point, each offering a better use case for something different, like a tree for gayming, a tree for servers, etc. there's already hardened kernels and the cachyOS kernel seems to get some slight changes from mainline.

Clair Obscur is a ticking time bomb for me.
I haven't managed to keep the Oblivion remaster running for more than three minutes after leaving the sewers.
Anything lighter runs amazingly.
Did HL1 coop for hours without issue, Terraria is fine.
Visions of Mana has frozen on me once or twice, but it's largely been fine, and I'm about 70% of the way through.

Anytime I run a full system upgrsde my package manager tells me all the stuff I have manually installed that is dependent on updated library and recompile them. If they're currently can't compile against it I can't easily fix it myself i just downgrade it back, flag it to not update and move on with my life.

Bridging the gap with proton is absolutely necessary until valve can make Linux attractive enough to laptop and prebuilt makers where they choose to save money on licenses and developers see that native Linux is worth it

I don't really care for any multiplayer kernel level anti cheat game so I didn't really miss anything. Only games that give me bad performance are UE5 titles but I think that would happen even on Windows.

That being said Linux is not user friendly at all and I'm one of the peons that wants shit to just werk out of the box. Having to crack open the command line is insanely cringe and I don't like doing it. Also I had to try about 3 different distros before landing one that didn't seem buggy and held together with duct tape. Currently using Bazzite which is performing fine but I'm still remaining cautious. Installing Bazzite was a confusing busted mess in and of itself

They don't exactly do that unless you're buying from obviously suspicious key resellers
Besides it's still significantly better than the console situation where you have to completely mindrape it to get any recourse for corporate abuse, whereas on pc piracy is always an option

KDE typically uses Wayland which has vsync. I think mint is on x11. Dunno if that has vsync.

It working well does not mean what you have works well
In the same way a Windows user buys nvidia over AMD, a linux user buys AMD over nvidia

If that's their mindset then they were never going to change their OS ever anyways
The idea that what works well on one OS works just as well on another does not exist anywhere in tech and people only pretend this makes sense when criticizing Linux. Linux can run quite well, the idea that it will magically work well with what you exactly happen to have right this second is bit shakier. But this is obvious and true for any change in OS period including other versions of the current OS you use. If this is a hangup then the very premise of changing your OS does to appeal to you and I have no idea why you're talking about other os's at all to begin with.

The funny thing is that amd and intel used to sponsor a project that brought cuda to amd/intel https://github.com/vosen/ZLUDA and it worked in real software. Then both amd and intel said that they have no use for that (wtf? are they retarded?) and stopped sponsoring it. Then amd said that they want the dev to remove things he had made, so the project had to remove a lot of code progress.
