We did, and came to the only logical conclusion given Nintendo's confirmation that both Paulines are the same character: Bananza is a prequel to Odyssey, and Pauline's backstory has likely been retconned to make it so it was Void who kidnapped her, not DK
Conversely, Lady, Jumpman and Arcade DK (Cranky) are all still untouched but are now their own characters separate from Pauline and Mario (it is quite possible that Lady is the Grandmother Pauline keeps mentioning but without concrete evidence this is a conjecture at best), in which case Bananza becomes a story about descendants (Cranky -> DK, Lady -> Pauline) settling their ancestor's dispute and making amends

What if Mario and Donkey Kong just have entirely separate canon timelines and neither directly influence the other? In Mario, the Donkey Kong we know and the Pauline we know are DK and Pauline, with no further generational gaps. Cranky is a nonfactor, as the Kong Mario fought was always just "Donkey Kong" with an inconsistent design. In Donkey Kong, DK and Pauline are the grandchildren of those from the arcade game. Mario's grandchild, if any, is a nonfactor, and the Kong Mario fought was Cranky Kong aka Donkey Kong Sr. The reason things don't line up is because they're entirely separate canons and Donkey Kong is the only one that separates it into generations.

My speculation is based on things that happened in Super Mario Odyssey, and it is based on how the new Pauline character is portrayed, while taking into account things that happened in Odyssey, and the evidence that points to Donkey Kong Bananza being a sequel to both Super Mario Odyssey and all of the previous Donkey Kong games.

If one of the biggest evidence for Pauline Jr being related to Mario is her mannerism, then Mario is most definitely related to Jumpman, even more so than Pauline JR because they are definitely alike.
I don't think there's isn't a lot of conflicting evident to suggest that Mario and Pauline is not in incestuous relationship, and it's not that strange honestly either considering Nintendo is Japanese company.

Lady and Jumpman gave birth to Pauline, Mario and Luigi, they couldn't afford to raise all 3 so they kept Pauline, and gave 2 babies to a stork, eventually leading to Yoshi raising them.
Mario not knowing Pauline is related by blood, gave birth to Pauline Jr with Pauline, Mario also abandoned his child as their parents did (maybe he found that Jr was incestuous child, or he's just too busy being Mario).
Which coincidentally lead Pauline Jr to be raised by DK. This clear parallel with Mario's history clearly insinuates his incestuous relationship with Pauline.
