The entire Prophecy and the Angel religion are based on a lore book Asriel wrote for his indie game that he never finished, which ended up going hundreds of years into the past due to a causality loop. Ralsei is that book in its original form, which is why he knows everything about the Prophecy. The true ending will involve destroying Ralsei permanently, cutting the stable time loop and eliminating the Prophecy altogether. The final scene of the game will be restarting the timeline from the summer, Toriel and Asgore will still be together, Toriel will drop Kris off at school while talking about Asriel and Dess both being at college together, and Alphys will introduce the new student who just moved into town Susie.

So there's a lot of talk about the relationship between the SOUL and Kris, how what we want and what Kris wants are at odds. But I think there is a third party that we haven't discussed either: the game itself. Not the setting, but the actual mechanics and interface of Deltarune. Everything we do is dependent on what the game allows us to do, what dialogue we are allowed to choose and the like. And just like how Kris is our puppet, we in turn are puppets to the game itself, being given the illusion of choice while realistically having no real autonomy of our own. We can't force Kris to take a bottle of ketchup and chuck it at Sans' head. We can't force Kris to grab Susie by the back of her head and jam Kris' tongue into her mouth. We can make Kris move and answer for him sometimes, but our control over him is extremely limited because we cannot go against the mechanics of the game. No one can choose who they are in this world, not even the ever-powerful SOUL. But these options had to come from somewhere, right? Who is giving us the option to tell Kris to proceed, who is giving us the ability to write the name ASS in Tenna's gameshow? The interface has to come from somewhere, and there is only one individual who seems to be fully aware of the inherent nature of Deltarune on a systemic level.
I posit that W.D. Gaster, everyone's favorite mysteryman, IS the Deltarune. As in, he is literally Deltarune the game. His influence is felt everywhere because he is always watching, always present in every pop up box, every character icon, everything.

That's easy, the thing that we fight simply isn't the Knight's true form. It is some kind of puppet or projection which has been made in the image of a Holiday.
We can assume this because of two things:
First, we know that the Knight is a Lightner, but the Knight's form is impossible for a Lightner to possess.
Second, the Knight wears a helmet that can be removed.

The Knight's body is amorphous and liquid, and seems to be made of Darkness just like the Titan's. In fact it even turns into static when attacked, just like Titan Spawn. But we know that the Knight is a Lightner, who can move in the Light World enough to drag Undyne around and make Dark Fountains. These two things can only be true at the same time if we assume the Knight made of Darkness is not exactly the same as the Lightner who is the Knight, and in fact given how the DW Knight's body seems to be 100% Darkness, it is likely that they are not the same at all.
Therefore it doesn't make sense to assume that the Knight's DW appearance speaks to their LW appearance, because the former seems to be completely artificial.

Secondly, we know from the "Think of the Knight" cutscene that the Knight wears a helmet that can be removed. However in game we can clearly see that the Knight we fight is not wearing a helmet. The angular thing on top of their torso is just a part of their body, and acts as an eye, mouth, and head at different times. There's no "helmet", just body mass.
So then what's wearing the helmet? Connecting to the first point, I think it is the Knight's LW body. But why would the Lightner Knight need to wear a helmet? I believe it is to control the DW Knight's body which, if my first point is correct, is not the Lightner's real body.

If all that is correct, and the Knight is Asriel, then one need only assume it looks like a Holiday because Asriel made it to look like Dess, maybe because it's inspired by her in some way or maybe because he's using it to find her.

Ralsei knows more to the titans than he's letting on. The titan fetuses are not going to grow into titans, they'll grow into something else - maybe even Darkners. Ralsei is keeping it secret not maliciously but if Kris and Susie know they'll feel bad enough to try and find some other solution and Ralsei expects there is none.

Depending on how much you like anime-style shipteasing, you may be satisfied with the content that is already present thoughbeit. The two of them share a ton of scenes together and pretty obviously share feelings for each other. They've got some of the most heartfelt scenes in the game just spending time with one another, and do a bunch of different anime-ish romance tropes pretty sincerely.

And hey, the first two chapters are free. Try it and see if you like it, if not then you only spent like an hour or two.

Regarding the Knight's form, I think a better question is why would the Knight make their DW body look anything like themselves?
We know that Kris's crew is aware of our presence, that Kris goes out of their way to conceal the Knight's identity from us, and that Kris and the Knight are working together. If they can make their body look like anything, why would they just show themselves to be a Holiday? Why would Kris hide who they are just to have the person themselves narrow it down to three candidates for free?
I'm not saying that's actually the case. I think it is much more likely that the main reason is that it is a homage of sorts to Dess, I just don't think it makes very much sense to assume the deceitful shape-shifter's shape is actually what they look like.

First, the Knight's identity is a mystery story, a puzzle. The audience is following along with the characters as they try to deduce the identity of the antagonist. As the stakes get higher the tension builds and figuring out the puzzle becomes a matter of life and death. The reveal brings catharsis as you either have your conclusions proven correct or get to see how you were outsmarted. The only "subversions" to this classic formula has already been revealed, multiple characters already know the antagonist's real identity and are purposefully working against the audience to conceal it. Moreover the only character actively trying to solve the mystery, Susie, can't do it on her own and needs our help, and we need HER help because Kris prevents us from acting on anything we figure out, causing a multi-layered conflict that's only just begun in Chapter 4.
On the flip-side of this point, the idea that Toby would ruin this very purposefully crafted puzzle by showing the most dedicated part of his fanbase exactly who the Knight is less than halfway through the story is, frankly, absurd.

Second, I think Asriel being the Knight provides much more value than Dess Knight if for no other reason than how we know the Knight and Carol seem to treat Kris. I think it would tie up multiple mysteries surrounding Kris quite nicely if, for example, Asriel is very mad at Kris for their involvement in Dess's disappearance and is using their guilt to manipulate them into doing what he wants, namely finding Dess, including even lying to and hurting their friends.
Well, I assume I don't need to spell out every possibility, suffice it to say there's enough potential there for the story.

The Knight's an Amalgamate between a Lightner and a Darkner, specifically (Mayoral Bodyguard) Papyrus and Dess' dust covered hockey helmet. Carol's seeking to resurrect Dess as a Darkner in the same manner as Gerson, but something clearly went wrong. Likely her helmet didn't come back as her, so Carol experimented further, perhaps in the Bunker which contains a Dark Fountain. The Knight uses Asriel's attacks. It uses his music. What is purported to be its dialogue blips sound almost identical to Asriel's. It demonstrates authority over Kris. If the Knight is not somehow getting it's movements and poses from Kris, then Kris has been imitating it directly. Asriel's favorite character in SSF was the female "Sword Magician".
The Knight's very first appearance has it crying, and the one single piece of information we know about what Asriel was doing between Dess's appearance and his supposed admission into college was that he was a "crying boy", that's so important that it's contrasted directly with the only time in the entire game so far where Dess is actually called a "lost girl". Moreover, in Chapter 4 we are provided with the story of a "fallen star" which "cries" and creates something out of it's tears which is or is like a shadow crystal, a concept introduced in Chapter 2 when Mettaton created an empty body (!) in the Dark World containing its own shadow crystal (!!), granting the body "incredible power" (!!!).
What is the one room in Queen's mansion that Kris will not allow you to see? Asriel's.
Who is the only person Kris will prevent you from watching in Chapter 4? The Knight.
What is the single descriptor that stops Kris from opening the door in the Church? That it has room enough for "a large person".


These are breadcrumbs but taken as a whole I see them as nothing but a clear pathway directly to the Knight through Asriel. I see no other theory that even comes close to this level of foundation. Perhaps I am mistaken and it is Dess, or Carol, or whoever, but I will die on the hill that as of right now the person with the most evidence pointing to them as the Knight is Asriel Dreemurr.

The problem is some people think Usual Suspects red herrings are a valid form of storytelling when they almost always require a lie to be told to the reader; not the characters but the reader itself has to be lied to or lied by omission through a character's perspective to make them get rugpulled by the red herring. Carol and Dess are both fanatic about humans which is represented through them liking "heart-shaped objects" something only humans have. I think I've elaborated before when asked, granted I'm not the anon who said in this thread this time, the one who said might honestly be the usual shitposter.
But in my case I found Zi-O to be hugely inconsistent in quality even if I found the show to be pretty funny, some of the scenes cut for pacing felt essential for the show's plot and characters. Zero-One's job competion arc and finale sucked, there was also a lot of stuff that got cut due to Covid and had to be left to the Thouser special. I found Saber's first quarter to be unenjoyable aside from the slice of life scenes, I also didn't find the Shindai brothers likeable in any of the show's actual episodes. Revice went to shit after episode 18 and I can hardly find any redeeming qualities after that besides the Holy Live fight, the DeStream fight and the final episode doing a few good emotional beats, it's honestly my most hated season in this franchise since there isn't a single character that I would say I "loved" and the show's worse on a re-watch. Geats's Q3 was a massive drop in quality and didn't further properly the cast's character arcs, then the last quarter does everything in a rushed manner. I only really enjoyed Gotchard during its second quarter, otherwise it was always on a state of up and down, it's the only Rider season I would classify as a 5/10, just extremely average.

Seriously though, I don't expect Dess to be Adachi. I could see her being Chara 2.0, but that would probably mean she would have a somewhat more sympathetic motivation.
