Japan as a whole has been shitting the bed with "Globohomo" game projects ever since then. I always felt like it was too good to be true when we were still getting our Bloodbornes and Sekiroes, but genuinely the only time I've felt like they're not just solely conforming to the shit we're already tired of recently, was DK Bananza, but even that game is like an 8/10 to me and not an all-time thing.

I was also getting tired about most games back in 2015-2016 but then I remember spotting Nier Automata and going "Holy! What is this!?"

I'm always hopeful something else good will happen, but FromSoftware won't be remaking the next "Demon's Souls" style of hit ever again.

Speaking purely for myself: the core combat is like a coolness simulator. Everything about it makes you feel cool. You're always doing something in a fight, either parrying or attacking, and you get to attack a lot. You get immediate feedback for everything that you do, too. Parrying feels cool. Hammering on your opponent's guard feels cool. It's all so satisfying, and the bounce between strings of parries and strings of hits once you've got a boss's attack rotation down feels great and looks great in a way that no other game does quite as well.

The rest of my praise is more generally applicable to Souls games and it's what you'd expect. The world is big and mysterious and atmospheric. The bosses are rad. The game looks gorgeous. That's all typical From Software stuff, and it's all good. But the switch from souls' dodge-and-punish core combat to Sekiro's system is what puts it in its own genre and is why I love it so much. I do also enjoy the other Fromsoft games, but Sekiro's just so fun to play it's in a league of its own. It's not the biggest Fromsoft game or the hardest Fromsoft game (I probably spent less time on most of these bosses than I did in DS2, I'm a shitter I know) but just the act of playing it is tons of fun in a way that's separate from those other titles.

AC6 is fun and has a great aesthetic but at its core the gameplay isn't that interesting, there isn't much depth to it. AC has always been that way. Customization is fun but just pads widens the generally shallow gameplay.

Oh yes, a game should be judged around how many buttons you must press at the same time instead of how well a simple system is implemented and build up.
Also
>platinum games
Most of their games are mediocre combat fluidity wise. Only pass for an actual well put together action game is Metal Gear Rising, games like Automata have fun loops but they are deep as a puddle and the difficulty is nonesense. Bayonetta's combat is just a chaotic with almost no responsiveness, expect for endless glory kill animations.

Sekiro is where it all went wrong for me. Even though the game's not bad on it's own, it trimmed so much down that it became formulaic. It's parry focus gameplay is one note, but it's a short game so it works there, the problem is when soiboys copy the game game and make timed blocks the strongest mechanics. The genre no longer feels like an adventure. It's no longer about finding cool shit, secrets, dangerous bosses are just roadblocks at the end of levels instead of discoveries, you no longer build your characters, you don't find cool shit for them that's a paradigm shift, you don't discover pieces of the story and world and put them together. I think the worst thing is that Wolf has the most respected block in gaming while not even using a shield. I want to be a Cleric.

no, the game shouls be judged by how deep it is, not how complicated it is. Dark souls was deep with all the positioning, angling, different shit actually making character play different etc

Since ds3 positioning doesn't fucking matter at all, everything spins on place and has gap closers, this is TWO ENTIRE AXIS of infinite depth completely removed from equasion. This is retarded design.

Are you serious nigger, half of the game is roll and make one attack, then wait for the next roll. The other "builds" are run away and spam magic shit or press the block button that doesn't work against half of the games attack, so you fallback to roll and do one attack

Sekiro is full of finding cool shit and has a ton of midbosses and sidebosses you don't even have to fight. It's almost the antithesis of what you're describing in terms of an adventure. I never enjoyed a Fromsoft game more than Sekiro in terms of the exploration.
And although I get the whole build variety thing, I've never cared about the RPG aspects of Souls games myself. It all seems mostly superfluous. Big weapon or small weapon, gameplay doesn't actually change much.

Bloodborne's combat is much better, because it includes tactical fluidity as well as the physical violence. Sekiro is entirely focused on timing. Bloodblorne, you can change the tide of battle through both attacking during the right moments, and attacking along the right vectors. Where you strike is just as important as when. What you attack with is also important, and enemy knowledge and diversifying your arsenal as a hunter are rewarded.
In Sekiro, you have to go out of your way to use prosthetics and the Shinobi Arts , and they are there entirely for style, you can play the game without both to completion.

>Spam your combo moveset non-stop at the boss until he's dead
That's the opposite of a balanced and fluid game, it's like the other side of the Elden Ring boss moveset cancer. When people talk about Sekiro's fluidity it encompasses everything, not just how the moveset flows from action to action but how combats are all an actual back and forth between you and the enemies and bosses, the timing for everything is spot on so it doesn't look too over the top nor too grounded which compliments the vibe the game has perfectly

I agree anon. Dark Souls 3 is easily the worst in the series because enemies will slide step you to always be in range when they attack, and positioning is entirely gone in that game. ( Along with a whole lot else) I don't really agree that Elden Ring is like that, because freerunning is so powerful in that game and can be done immediately from any action. You can create space in Elden Ring, as well as having stronger blocks, jumping, and ducking, which do work even if they aren't always clear that they will. It's not just Rollspam.

Nigger you can smash R1 with the saw cleaver and beat every single boss in the game (even stun lock a handful of them) you have to go out of your way to do shit like gun parries and transformed attacks. Still, Sekiro and Bloodborne are both the best games From has combat wise precisely because they both understand combat fluidity and their moveset are built from top to bottom around this, unlike the other Souls games.

That being said I feel Sekiro is a step up in quality even though Bloodborne is my favorite game they've ever made.

Sekiro is literally the game that opened the normalfag floodgates. It is the most streamlined and most accessible From game by far.
>but it's le hard!
Normalfags weren't avoiding their games because of mechanical challenge. Casual audiences are actually quite receptive to safe-difficult games (Geometry Dash being the most obvious example) what turned them off about From games was the frictional additions like getting lost or softlocking stats, weird RPG mechanics, lack of cutscenes and narrative, and oppressive multiplayer systems.

Sekiro essentially killed the soulslike, fully metastizing the genre into a flashy and hard but ultimately simple and streamlined boss rush style game.

Stances are there to extend your combos because when you unlock flux(ki pulse when switching stance) you will never use normal ki pulse

Nioh has a low skill floor and a very high skill ceiling. You think about the right stance when you first play the game, this comes from the lack of weapon skills and personal skill. As time goes on, your thought should be the stylish combo you'll be pulling instead.

>just has shit locked behind stats then you just pick what you want to unlock and either fight in melee or shoot magic
The RPG experience comes from building a unique character and toolset that's mutually exclusive to other options. The very first time you pick up the spell Force, you have a unique approach to dangerous scenarios that completely changes how you play. This continues with every FIND. You only become more powerful through exploration and discovery. You cannot win from your base character level, you have to explore to get stronger, and you have to get stronger to get to the end, and your strength develops into a specific character unique from others you might develop, unique from what you started as. Obviously this is different from playing Hagane: The Final Conflict where you start the game and end the game exactly the same and you cannot change, find anything to make you stronger, or make any discoveries that will help you.
You didn't seriously start as a bandit and used an unupgraded Battle Axe your entire first playthrough of Dark Souls 1, did you?
