It's a little complicated, m8.
Before DMC5 there was a certainty that DMC was dead. DmC did do astronomically well but it did well enough to not be a failure. That's not what Capcom wanted, though. They wanted astronomical success, which they didn't get from 4 or DmC. Itsuno wants to leave but they offer him any game he wants because he makes them money. He wants DmC2 but not without NT, who are his friends, but they went to MS so they'd be a XB exclusive, and that's a no, so he settles for DMC5 and makes it as DmC as he can. Not lying, either. All of this is a matter of public record. You can google any of this from the horse's mouth.
So, now there IS a DMC return and people are excited. So excited to not have to DmC that they not only do they overlook all the game's shortcomings, issues or any similarities to DmC, they defend, champion or even pretend they aren't there. The game is riding off the high of not being DmC so much people didn't just ignore any issues they tell you, and themselves, that they aren't there. That's how much DmC slapped the franchise.
